CONTROLLED BURN NOTICE โ€“ NAHUNTA AREA

The Brantley County E911 Center has been notified that the Georgia Forestry Commission is conducting an approximately 88-acre controlled burn in the area of Buffalo Creek Drive in Nahunta.

There is no cause for alarm. This is a planned and controlled burn.

Smoke from the burn may be noticeable southeast of the airport and throughout the Buffalo Creek Drive area. As temperatures cool this evening and overnight, smoke could settle into low-lying areas and potentially create reduced or low visibility on area roadways.

Please use extra caution if traveling through the area, especially tonight and during the early morning hours. Slow down, use your headlights when visibility is reduced, and remain alert for changing conditions.

Please remember that smoke associated with this controlled burn is expected. Only call 9-1-1 if you observe an actual emergency or an uncontrolled fire.

We will provide additional information if conditions change.

25 years ago, 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights.

2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning.

343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift.

None of them saw past 10:00 a.m. on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’› IN LOVING MEMORY OF HEATHER COPELAND ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ–ค
End of Watch: September 7, 2021

Today, we pause to honor and remember Heather Copeland, Brantley County E-911 Director, whose End of Watch was September 7, 2021.

Heather was more than a voice on the other end of the radio or telephone. She was the calm voice in the dark days for so many โ€” a steady presence when people were experiencing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Although five years have passed, Heather is remembered every single day. Her dedication, compassion, leadership, and service left a lasting mark on her community, her coworkers, and the public safety family she served alongside.

The headset may be silent, but the impact of her voice and her service will never fade.

Heather, we remember you today. We remember you every day. And we will never forget you.

๐Ÿ–ค End of Watch: 09/07/2021 ๐Ÿ–ค
Forever remembered. Forever part of the 9-1-1 family.
