In the early hours of Monday, July 6, 2026, members responded to assist with a flooded building. During the investigation, conditions rapidly deteriorated and another building began flooding with people entrapped in the basement. Members forced entry into the basement as waters filled the area and rescued a non-ambulatory disabled person as well as 3 other people. Because of the swift action of firefighters, everyone was able to be safely evacuated.

Exciting update from Newport Township Fire Department! Our dedicated members are out in the community today color-coding fire hydrants. Why does this matter? Each color indicates the water flow rate, so when we respond to emergencies, we know exactly how much water we have available at each hydrant—helping us save time and protect you better. Stay safe, Newport Township!
