Today we remember all those lost 25 years ago, especially those in the fire service. Help us honor the brave first responders who ran towards danger that day and all who perished by joining us this evening at 5 p.m. at the Cmdr. Dan Shanower memorial.
It’s been 25 years since the events of Sept. 11, 2001, and we will . We commit to the shared promise of never forgetting and to teach those born after 9/11 its significance. Nearly 3,000 lives were lost that day, including Naperville’s Cmdr. Dan Shanower. His powerful words resonate: “Freedom isn’t free.”
Today we remember all lives lost on that day: those who died in the attacks, during rescue response or from 9/11-related illness. We honor their loved ones who live out their legacy. We remember the heroic actions of first responders, rescue teams, flight crews and service members. We remember the impact of that day and the acts of kindness and compassion that followed.
Join us for a remembrance ceremony tonight at 5 p.m. at the Cmdr. Dan Shanower Memorial behind the Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St.
