⚠ 📢 Important Food Distribution Hub Update

Due to construction work, we will be unable to distribute food at our Aurora Food Distribution Hub from October 24–31.

During this time, neighbors can visit any of our other food distribution locations for assistance. No advance registration or appointment is needed. See our website for additional locations: https://www.loaves-fishes.org/programs/food-assistance/

Please also note a change to our online order pickup schedule for 👉Monday, November 2. Pickup, normally scheduled for 10 a.m., will take place at 5 p.m.

Loaves & Fishes Community Services was proud to participate in Naperville Community Unit School District 203 Career Motive-8, where Yolanda Rocio, our Director of Human Resources, helped students learn what a career in the nonprofit sector looks like.

Yolanda shared how Loaves & Fishes works to provide healthy food and impactful programs that promote self-sufficiency, while giving students a glimpse into the many ways a career can make a meaningful difference in the community.

🚧 Hub 2.0 is really taking shape!
Today, 78 trucks of concrete arrived at our Aurora Food Distribution Hub to pour the floors. This is a major milestone in bringing Hub 2.0 to life!
Every step brings us closer to expanding our capacity and reaching more neighbors with healthy food and essential support.

We’re getting closer to our $15 million Nourish Together goal, but we need our community’s help to cross the finish line! Together, we can build a stronger foundation for the future.

Celebrating 10 Years of Leadership!

This month, we celebrate Mike Havala’s 10th anniversary as President & CEO of Loaves & Fishes—and 17 years of dedicated service to our organization.

Since becoming CEO in 2016, Mike has helped lead Loaves & Fishes through a period of tremendous growth. The organization has nearly quadrupled the number of neighbors served annually and expanded its reach across DuPage, Kane, Kendall, and Will counties. 

His leadership has also helped shape a broader approach to ending hunger—one that pairs healthy food with impactful programs that help families move toward greater stability.

Mike also championed the merger with Naperville CARES, a milestone that celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, and has guided the organization through significant growth in its food distribution operations.

“Mike’s expertise and empathy have elevated our ability to provide healthy food, impactful support services, and lasting stability for thousands of families,” said Board Chair Kristen Refness. “His visionary leadership and astute financial stewardship have transformed how we serve our community.”

We are grateful for Mike’s 17 years of commitment to Loaves & Fishes and look forward to what the next chapter will bring.

We’re excited to be featured in Food Bank News for how the New Markets Tax Credit is helping make our vision for the future possible.

Through our Nourish Together Campaign, we’re expanding our Aurora food distribution hub to increase our capacity to serve neighbors facing hunger. This innovative financing provided approximately $2 million in net benefits to support this important investment in our community.

With the support of our partners, we’re building the capacity to reach more families with healthy food and impactful programs that promote self-sufficiency.
