πŸŽƒβ›ˆοΈ The weather might be the scariest surprise at your next Halloween event! πŸ‘»

If there's one thing we know about Florida weather, it's that it can change FAST! 🌦️

Our North Collier Fire Community Connection team and crews experienced that firsthand at Saturday's community Trunk-or-Treats!πŸš’πŸ¬

The day started out hot and humid with high UV levels, turned drizzly while we were out enjoying the festivities, and ended with a storm moving into the area as the event was wrapping up!

It's a great reminder that even as we head into fall, Florida weather can still keep us on our toes!

Whether you're trick-or-treating, attending a trunk-or-treat, or enjoying a fall festival, here are 5 things to keep in mind when planning outdoor activities:

🌦️ 1. Check the forecast! Look for changing weather conditions and alerts before heading out, and continue monitoring throughout the event.

⚑ 2. When thunder roars, go indoors! If you hear thunder, seek shelter inside a substantial building or hard-topped vehicle. Wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder before returning outside.

πŸ’¨ 3. Watch for strong winds! Tents, inflatables, decorations, and unsecured equipment can become dangerous when winds pick up. Stay clear of potential hazards.

🏠 4. Know where to go! Have a plan for where you and your family can safely shelter if severe weather develops. Remember, tents and open-sided pavilions are NOT safe shelters during lightning.

πŸ“± 5. Be ready to change plans! Stay informed, follow event organizers' updates, and don't hesitate to leave early or postpone outdoor activities when conditions become unsafe.

πŸŽƒ The only surprises we want this Halloween are the treats in your candy bag, not the weather! 🍬

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to visit our crews on Saturday! We always enjoy connecting with families throughout our District. β€οΈπŸš’

πŸ”₯ Day 22/30 | 30 Days of Safety

10/21/2026

πŸ”₯πŸ‘€ You see smoke coming from your oven, so you open the door to put out the fire… only to give it more oxygen and potentially make it worse.

🎢 How bizarre, how bizarre… 🎢

πŸ‘» Now THAT'S a kitchen nightmare!

When a fire starts inside your oven, your first instinct might be to open the door and try to put it out. But opening the oven can introduce more oxygen, potentially causing the flames to grow!

🚨 If you have an oven fire, remember:

πŸšͺ KEEP IT CLOSED! Don't open the oven door. Keeping it closed helps limit the oxygen feeding the flames.

πŸ”₯ TURN IT OFF! Turn off the oven if you can safely do so.

🚫 DON'T OPEN IT TO CHECK! Even if the flames appear to have gone out, opening the door could cause the fire to flare up again.

πŸ“ž GET OUT AND CALL 911! If there's a fire, evacuate everyone, stay outside, and call 911. Let firefighters handle the situation.

πŸŽƒ The only thing we want cooking up this Halloween is something delicious, not a kitchen disaster!

CONGRATULATIONS CHIEF RICARDO!

We are incredibly proud to announce that Fire Chief Eloy Ricardo is a recipient of the 2026 Safety and Health Award of Excellence from the Florida Fire Chiefs Association (FFCA)!

This prestigious statewide award recognizes extraordinary leadership and an unwavering commitment to advancing the health, safety, and wellness of Florida’s firefighters.

Every decision Chief Ricardo makes is driven by two priorities: the safety and well-being of the community we serve and the men and women who proudly wear the North Collier Fire uniform. For Chief Ricardo those are inseparable responsibilities.

From our recent transition to the 24/72 shift schedule to our innovative partnership with Airotone, exploring new approaches to respiratory fitness and firefighter readiness, Chief Ricardo continues to champion initiatives that put emergency responders first.

We sincerely thank United Badges Insurance Services for sponsoring this award and the Florida Fire Chiefs Association and its Health & Safety Collaborative for keeping firefighter health and safety at the forefront of our profession. We are also excited to have our partners from Airotone participating in this year’s conference for the first time!

A special thank you to Assistant Chief Matt Trent for nominating Chief Ricardo for this recognition.

Chief Ricardo, congratulations! Taking care of our community begins with taking care of those who serve it.

Honor. Service. Pride.

πŸ«°πŸ•ΈοΈ They're creepy and they're kooky… but is YOUR family ready for a fire emergency? 🏠πŸ”₯

This spooky season, North Collier Fire is reminding everyone that every family needs a home fire escape plan!

A house fire can spread quickly, leaving you with very little time to get out safely. That's why it's so important to make a plan and practice it BEFORE an emergency happens.

🏠 Here's how to get started:

πŸšͺ Know two ways out! Identify two possible exits from every room, usually a door and a window.

πŸͺŸ Check your exits! Make sure windows and doors can open easily and escape routes are clear.

πŸ“ Pick a meeting place! Choose a safe location outside, away from your home, where everyone will meet.

🚨 Get out and stay out! Once you're safely outside, call 911. Never go back into a burning building.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Practice together! Make sure everyone in your household knows the plan, including children, older adults, and anyone who may need assistance. Practice your escape plan at least twice a year!

And don't forget working smoke alarms! 🚨

πŸ‘» The Addams Family may enjoy a spooky house, but a real house fire is no laughing matter.

πŸ”— Ready to create your family's escape plan? The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has resources to help you get started:

πŸ‘»πŸ”₯ When things get smoky, it's time to get LOW and GO!

Smoke from a house fire is no Halloween special effect. It can be extremely dangerous, reducing visibility and filling your home with toxic gases.

Because heat and smoke rise, the air closer to the floor may be clearer and cooler, giving you a better chance of escaping safely.

🚨 If you encounter smoke while escaping a fire:

πŸ‘‡ STAY LOW! Get down on your hands and knees and crawl beneath the smoke.

πŸšͺ GO! Follow your home fire escape plan and use the nearest safe exit.

βœ‹ Check doors before opening them. Feel the door and doorknob with the back of your hand. If they're hot, or smoke is coming around the door, use another exit.

🏠 GET OUT AND STAY OUT! Once outside, call 911 from a safe location. Never go back inside a burning building.

And remember, if your escape route is blocked by smoke or fire, close the door between you and the fire, call 911, and let responders know where you are.

πŸŽƒ The only smoke we want to see this Halloween is from the fog machine!

πŸ‘»πŸšͺ Don't go back for your BOO! πŸ’€πŸΎ

When there's a fire in your home, we know your first instinct might be to go back for someone or something you love. But once you've made it outside, STAY OUT!

Even if your beloved pet, favorite belongings, or priceless Halloween decorations are still inside, going back into a burning building could put your life at risk.

πŸ”₯ Remember these three lifesaving steps:

πŸšͺ GET OUT! Leave your home immediately using the nearest safe exit. Don't stop to collect belongings.

βœ‹ STAY OUT! Never re-enter a burning building, even if someone or a pet is still inside.

πŸ“ž CALL 911! Once you're safely outside, call 911 and let dispatchers and arriving firefighters know if anyone, including pets, may still be inside and where they were last seen.

πŸš’ Our firefighters have the training and protective equipment to assess the situation and attempt rescues when conditions allow. Let them handle the danger while you stay somewhere safe.

❀️ We know some things are irreplaceable, but your life is, too.

πŸŽƒ The only thing you should be going back for this Halloween is more candy… and definitely NOT during a fire!
