Western Dress II

When does clothing stop being a choice, and become an expectation?

In Western Dress II (2013), Lorna Marsh turns fashion into a powerful metaphor for the pressures placed on women to be seen, judged, and defined by appearance.

The face disappears behind a veil, while the eyes emerge from the dress itself, suggesting a world where the outward image becomes more important than the person beneath it.

Built from heavy, tactile layers of mixed media on wood, the life-sized gown overwhelms the figure, confronting us with the weight of society’s expectations.
