Nor'easter heading toward Rhode Island: preparation tips and storm safety
WEATHER ALERT: Nor’easter Heading Toward Rhode Island
-A strong coastal storm (nor’easter) is expected to impact Southern New England late this week into the weekend, bringing:
- Heavy rain, especially Friday night through Saturday 🌂
- Strong northeast winds with gusts 45 to 55 mph along the coast
- Rough seas, coastal flooding, and beach erosion 🌊
- Increased risk of downed trees and power outages due to fully leafed trees 🌳
There is the potential for localized street flooding, and power interruptions as the storm moves through.
The Narragansett Fire Department and Emergency Management encourages everyone to prepare now:
✅ BEFORE THE STORM
- **Secure your property:** Bring inside or tie down outdoor furniture, decorations, trash barrels, canopies, tents, and anything that can become airborne.
- **Clear drains:** Check gutters, downspouts, and storm drains near your home to help reduce localized flooding.
- **Charge devices:** Fully charge phones, flashlights, and backup power banks in case of outages.
- **Build a storm kit:** Include water, non‑perishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, and a battery‑powered radio.
- **Review your plan:** Know where you’ll go if you lose power or if your home becomes unsafe, and check on family, neighbors, and those who may need extra help.
