The Assembly has named our House District 25 race among North Carolina’s top races to watch, highlighting the role our community could play in shaping the future of our state.

This attention reinforces what I know: Nash County matters. Our families, our schools, our small businesses, and our future deserve leadership that listens and puts our community first.

The Republican legislative leadership called an emergency session and passed the gas tax bill to respond to their polling emergency. North Carolinians need more legislators who put the people’s needs ahead of their own. Legislators like Dante Pittman, Kandie Smith — NC Senate, future Senators Jess Rivera and Citizens to Elect James D. Gailliard , future Rep. Lorenza Wilkins, and other Democrats up and down the ballot.

So let’s win some elections in November. And let’s get back to Raleigh and, whoever wins, get serious about building a North Carolina that is safer, stronger, more prosperous, and more affordable.

The cost of getting our children to school matters.

When diesel prices rise, it costs more to keep school buses running. For public schools working with limited resources, those increases put added pressure on budgets that must also support teachers, classrooms, and building maintenance.

Families count on reliable school transportation. Our schools need dependable funding to manage fuel costs and get students to school safely, every day.

I support investing in our public schools so they can meet these essential needs and keep our children’s education first.
