Nashville for Rational COVID Policy

Advocating for clear, transparent, and sensible policy which balances COVID risk with policy costs to benefit ALL Nashvillians.

ATTN Parents, you will not hear this in the headlines nor from
MNPS. Here is the truth about child hospitalizations in Nashville from the head of the Covid task force Alex Jahangir.

Covid is NOT a significant factor in the increase in child hospitalizations.

Children are still at very very low risk for SarsCov2, including the Delta variant.

Did you know that requiring masks in school has never made a difference with regard to staff member infection? In fact the opposite is true.

The data is on our side.

08/05/2021

This is simply not the crisis those targeting children are trying to sell you. Other pathogens are having a comeback in our kids and SARS COV2 is one of the least among them.

The blue line in this graph is SarsCov2.

This is from East Tennessee Children's Hospital.

Just the facts.

Time for facts. Lots of new sensationalized media reporting of "full Children's hospitals" in Tennessee in order to support policy changes. On July 31st, according to HHS, 11 kids were in the hospital that day with a positive SCV2 test.

Orange Line- Adult inpatients.

Black- pediatrics.

MNPS Families: How do we feel about this new petition that wants to make masks mandatory for ALL ages in Metro Schools regardless of vaccination status?

Should we create a counter-petition and get it to 5,000 signatures to overtake this one?

Does anyone else find it unfair that people are primarily targeting kids with an intervention when it's the adults that are the actual at risk group?

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆'𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻. From the very beginning Nashville for a Rational Covid Policy has advocated for policies that are supported by data. All the same people that said in-person learning for MNPS wasn't safe last year are now saying the kids aren't safe unless everyone wears a mask (link to their petition in comments). Luckily, we have had a year to learn, observe, and collect the data. Here are the facts:

1 - Children are at extremely low risk for the Covid-19.
2 - All teachers/staff have had the opportunity to get an extremely effective vaccine against Covid-19
3 - Children do not drive community spread

They were wrong then and they're wrong now.

We're thinking about creating a counter-petition so Nashville can hear the voice of average MNPS parents. If we made a petition like that, would you sign?

On November 25, MNPS announced their criteria for determining when they would move between in person, blended, and all virtual learning. We have taken the Composite Weighted Risk Score and retroactively modeled what it would look like since March.

We will update this interactive visual regularly with data from the same sources that MNPS cites in their official communication. Please share if you appreciate this visualization of the data!

On November 24, Metro Nashville Public Schools unveiled a new "COVID Risk Score" which they say will guide school reopening decisions.

We did the math and calculated this risk score back to April 3, and found that schools would have never been fully in-person using this metric.

Data sources:
1. Transmission rate: COVID Act Now (used by Davidson County): https://covidactnow.org/us/tn/county/davidson_county/?s=1374358
2. 7-day cases per 100K residents and case positivity rate: Calculated from Tennessee Department of Health data here: https://tn.gov/health/cedep/ncov/data/downloadable-datasets.html

Dr. Alex Jahangir is the only medical professional & only member of the Nashville Coronavirus Task Force who is publicly known to have advised Metro Nashville Public Schools on their reopening plan.

Here, he is asked whether he agrees with their extended closures and their warning that elementary students may return to virtual learning after Thanksgiving, given that his own kids are in school.
