One of our members noted the Nashville Stamp & Postcard Show is this weekend March 14th & 15th at the Fifty Forward Senior Center in Madison. This year the show is commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans with U.S. Forces led by General Andrew Jackson. Free Admission, free parking and free stamp packets for young people.

Cavalry and Artillery Demonstrations at Stones River National Battlefield
Stones River National Battlefield will present living history demonstrations featuring the Seventh Tennessee Cavalry, CSA on November 2-3, 2013. These programs will help visitors understand the role of cavalry the three Civil War battles fought at Murfreesboro.
Cavalry was one of the greatest strengths of the Confederate Army of Tennessee during its campaigns in middle Tennessee. Rangers will discuss the role of cavalry during the three battles at Murfreesboro, and the Seventh Tennessee Cavalry, CSA will demonstrate the tactics that made Forrest, Morgan, and Wheeler names to be feared by their enemies.
Visitors are also invited to visit the camp and learn about the daily life of Confederate soldiers during the Civil War.
DAILY PROGRAM SCHEDULE
10 AM - Ranger Talk - Forrest's Murfreesboro Raid
11 AM - Cavalry Demonstration
1 PM - Ranger Talk - Confederate Cavalry at the Battle of Stones River
2 PM - Cavalry Demonstration
3 PM - Ranger Talk - The Battle of the Cedars
These programs are free and part of a series of interpretive programs offered at the battlefield during the year. The new entrance to Stones River National Battlefield is at 1563 N. Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro. Additional information is available at the visitor center, by calling (615) 893-9501 or at the park website (http://www.nps.gov/stri).
Stones River National Battlefield (U.S. National Park Service) The Battle of Stones River began on the last day of 1862 and was one of the bloodiest conflicts of the Civil War. The battle produced important military and political gains for the Union, and it changed forever the people who lived and fought here.
