Today is HIV Long Term Survivors Day.
We pause to honor the strength, resilience, and lived experience of those who have navigated this virus for decades. One longtime member of our community shared:
"I was diagnosed on August 10th, 1993β¦ If you had told me that I would still be living almost 33 years later, I would never have believed you. Those who live with the virus this long go through unimaginable anxiety, worry and loss and experience a high-level variety of health issuesβ¦
I just wanted you all to know how grateful I am to be a part of Nashville CARES. I wouldn't have survived this long if it weren't for the compassionate, safe, and welcoming feel of CARES." - Aaron M.
His words remind us that what we do matters deeply. Every resource provided, every appointment supported, every moment of stigma-free care helps people not just survive, but continue living full lives.
To all long-term survivors: thank you for your courage, your advocacy, and for trusting us to walk alongside you. Your presence and stories make a real difference.
If you or someone you know needs support, Nashville CARES is here.

Our Supply Drive helps stock the shelves that keep our clients and CARES 360 patients moving forward, things like cleaning supplies, paper products, laundry detergent, kitchen wares, and bath linens.
A gentle ask as you shop:
If it works for your budget, consider purchasing multiples of one item (think 10 bottles of Pine-Sol, a case of toilet tissue, or a full set of forks) instead of one of several different things. Buying in bulk on one item helps us distribute supplies evenly across the people we serve, and it makes a much bigger impact than you might expect.
Of course, every contribution matters and is deeply appreciated. However you choose to give, you are helping someone in our community feel a little more cared for this week.

Summer in the South means a spike in HIV diagnoses.
The CDC sees this pattern every single year. It's not because people suddenly change their behavior, it's structural. Summer travel, festivals, heat, and disrupted routines create real vulnerabilities.
Here's what's happening:
-Travel throws off PrEP refills, sleep, and daily routines β adherence drops.
-Festival & event season often means more sexual partners than usual for a few weeks β the risk math changes.
-Extreme heat can ruin medication if you're living with HIV (PLHIV). Hot cars destroy ART.
Protect yourself and your community this summer:
Refill your PrEP early
Pack a cooler bag for meds
Save the PEP hotline: (615) 499-7406
Stay safe, stay prepared, and look out for each other. Summer fun doesn't have to come with extra risk.

Nashville CARES turned 40 this year. Forty years of HIV care that put us at the front of the Southern response, not because we were lucky, but because Nashville chose to build it.
Innovation in HIV care is measurable: How quickly someone newly diagnosed enters treatment. Whether the rural client can actually reach you. Whether the trans client feels safe enough to come back next month.
We measure ourselves that way.
For Pride Month, we ask donors and partners to make a 40-year institution into a 50-year institution.

Forty years ago, a group of brave people came together and said: not here, not alone.
That meeting in 1985 didn't just launch Nashville CARES, it ignited 40 years of unwavering commitment to the fight against HIV.
Today, on Day 1 of Pride Month, we honor the q***r community that made it all possible: the clients, staff, volunteers, donors, and organizers who refused to let this city look away.
At Nashville CARES, Pride isn't a marketing moment. It is our history, our heartbeat, and our daily work since 1985.
We remain a leading innovator in HIV prevention, care, and education because of the courage, resilience, and power of our LGBTQ+ community.
Real Pride. Forty years strong.
