๐Ÿ›‘ STOP ARM VIOLATIONS PUT CHILDREN AT RISK ๐Ÿ›‘

With school back in session, we want to remind everyone of one very simple rule: when a school bus has its red lights flashing and the stop arm extended, STOP.

Those flashing lights arenโ€™t a suggestion. They mean children may be entering or crossing the roadway, and a few seconds of impatience can have devastating consequences.

๐ŸšŒ Slow down around school buses.
๐Ÿ”ด Watch for flashing red lights and stop arms.
๐Ÿ‘€ Stay alert and off your phone.
๐Ÿ›‘ When required to stop โ€” STOP and stay stopped until it is safe and lawful to proceed.

Our children are counting on every driver in Washington County to pay attention and help get them to and from school safely.

Please slow down, stay alert, and help us protect our kids.

โ€” Washington County Sheriffโ€™s Office

08/17/2026

Sheriff Schultze had a rather unusual find on his way into the office this morning near Holzhauers/Fuel 24 โ€” a young bobcat that had unfortunately been struck by a vehicle.

Rather than let the animal go to waste, the Sheriffโ€™s Office would like to have the bobcat professionally preserved by a taxidermist and placed in a display case to be donated to a local school or library for educational purposes.

๐Ÿ“šInterested schools and libraries:
If your school or library would like the opportunity to receive the finished bobcat display, please contact the Washington County Sheriffโ€™s Office. All interested organizations will be entered onto our official โ€” and highly sophisticated โ€” **spinning wheel**, and one lucky recipient will be selected! ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ’ฐDonations are also welcome to help cover the cost of the taxidermy and display case. Checks may be made payable to the Washington County Sheriffโ€™s Office and mailed or dropped off at our office. Donations may also be made in person.

Once we receive an estimated cost for the project, we will post an update so everyone knows what we are working toward.

Only in Washington County can something start with, โ€œThe Sheriff found a bobcat on the way to workโ€ฆโ€ and somehow turn into a community education project before 9:00 a.m.

Happy Monday, Washington County! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐ŸŽ’๐ŸšŒ BACK TO SCHOOL IS HERE! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ“š

The backpacks are packed, the pencils are sharpened, and somehow summer disappeared overnight! ๐Ÿ˜… As our students head back to the classroom, letโ€™s all do our part to make getting to and from school safe, smooth, and stress-free. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ‘€ Drivers: Slow down in school zones, watch for kids crossing, and put the phone down. Those extra few seconds can make a BIG difference!

๐ŸšŒ School Bus Safety: When the bus has its red lights flashing, STOP! Give students plenty of room and stay alert for children getting on or off the bus.

๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšฒ Students: Use sidewalks and crosswalks when available, look both ways, and stay aware of your surroundings.

๐Ÿซ Parents & Caregivers: Talk with your kids about safe drop-off/pick-up areas, bus rules, stranger awareness, and what to do if something doesn't feel right.

๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ“ž And remember, we're all in this together! Our firefighters, EMS, law enforcement officers, 911 dispatchers, school staff, parents, and community members all play an important role in keeping our kids safe.

๐Ÿ’ฌ See something concerning? Say something. If you see a safety issue around a school, let the appropriate school or public safety officials know.

Let's start the school year with kindness, patience, awareness, and a whole lot of teamwork! โค๏ธ

๐ŸŽ’ SAFE SCHOOLS. STRONG COMMUNITIES. BRIGHT FUTURES.

๐Ÿšจ๐ŸŒช๏ธ No worries, folksโ€”no tornado today! ๐ŸŒช๏ธ๐Ÿšจ
Weโ€™re still doing some work on the countyโ€™s tornado sirens, so you might hear one chirp, blip, or give a dramatic โ€œTA-DA!โ€ every now and then.
If you do, donโ€™t panicโ€”
Thatโ€™s just your Emergency Services saying a friendly hello ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ™‚
Weโ€™ll let you know once everything is fully tuned up and behaving again. Thanks for your patience and sense of humor!

08/04/2026

Today we conducted our scheduled monthly test of the tornado sirens. We identified a few sirens that did not activate as expected. Our team is aware of the issue and is working to resolve it. We apologize for any unexpected or sporadic activations that may occur during this process.
