There are countless scientific studies proving the benefits of reading and being read to. But in our opinion, one of the most important benefits experienced is how reading helps to teach the social skill of empathy.
Reading fiction and non-fiction books can introduce new people, places, things, and cultures that you may never have the fortune to experience otherwise. Living within another's point-of-view - for however brief - fosters empathy and gives understanding to someone different from yourself. In our adult lives, we have found tremendous value in this. Reading has made us the people we are and shaped the things we believe.
