Buchanan Log House is a "living history" of Donelson and Nashville. We are also an event space for weddings and groups.

Built in 1808 by James Buchanan (1773-1841), you will find here a family's history, architectural history, and archaeological history. James Buchanan built this log house circa 1807-1809. He and his wife Lucinda would raise 16 children here, expanding the house in 1820. The property was placed on the Register of Historic Places in 1984 and includes several historic log structures, including the 18

It’s springtime—which means blooming flowers and open doors at the Buchanan Log House! 🌸 Just last week, we wrapped up our spring workday thanks to so many wonderful volunteers, including the DAR, who donated a Liberty Tree.

And in case you haven’t heard—we’re now offering open house hours for tours! Join us every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month to explore the house and learn more about its history.

Happy Spring! 🌼

We hope everyone is staying safe and doing well after last week’s winter storm! ❄️

Looking ahead to the rest of the year, the Buchanan Log House is excited to announce that we will be opening the house for tours on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month from 10–2. For anyone that cannot visit during these designated times, we still offer tours by appointment as well.

All are welcome and we can't wait to see you!

✨ Exciting news! The renovations at the Addison House Museum are complete! Thanks to a generous grant from the Tennessee State Museum, we now have a brand-new stone porch foundation, restored windows, a crushed stone walkway, and—most importantly—a fully accessible ramp so even more visitors can enjoy the site.

And we’re just getting started… next up: refreshing the interior! Stay tuned for more updates as the work continues.

Have you noticed the construction work on our property lately?! 🔨🚧🦺

Thanks to the generous support of the Capital Maintenance and Improvements Grant from the Tennessee State Museum last year, we’re thrilled to share that renovation and improvement work has officially begun on the Addison House Museum!

This historic space holds a special place in our community, and these updates will help preserve its legacy while making it more accessible and welcoming to all. From structural repairs to long-overdue updates, every step brings us closer to honoring the past while preparing for the future.

Stay tuned—we’ll be sharing progress updates and behind-the-scenes looks as this important project moves forward. We’re so grateful to the Tennessee State Museum for helping make this vision a reality! 💛
