A nationally recognized resource for student assistance, training and professional consultation, STARS assists students, families and schools with prevention, intervention and treatment services addressing bullying, substance abuse, violence, and social and emotional barriers to success. Founded in 1984, STARS staff operate in schools and community sites throughout Middle Tennessee via STARS Specialists, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, Youth Overcoming Drug Abuse (YODA) as a licensed alcohol and drug out-patience treatment facility as well as their Kids On The Block puppetry program helping educate kindergarten through sixth grade students about health and social concerns that affect their lives while promoting an understanding and acceptance of all children and adults regardless of their differences.

STARS Regional Overdose Prevention Specialist Terry Milner recently led an overdose prevention training for professional barbers who are working to Cut Out Stigma as men's health ambassadors!

Barbershops are more than places to get a haircut. They're places where people connect, build trust, and have real conversations. By learning about overdose prevention, these barbers are gaining tools to help protect the people in their chairs and their communities.

A big thank you to these barbers for taking an active role in men's health and helping make important conversations about substance misuse and overdose prevention part of everyday life!

Leading STARS sometimes looks like big decisions, big ideas, and big plans... and sometimes it looks like putting together the Wish Upon a STAR display before STARS Rising!

Sandy and Rodger bring so much heart, energy, and care to STARS, and we love that they’re always ready to jump in and be part of whatever is happening.

Who knew a parking lot could be such a BIG deal?! 🚗🎉

Well, WE DID! ⭐

On October 21, we're celebrating the Youth Opportunity Center's nomination for the Nashville Business Journal's Best Real Estate Deal!

Together, STARS, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee, and Oasis Center purchased the Youth Opportunity Center parking lot, making an important investment in a place that means so much to our community.

This is about so much more than parking spaces! The Youth Opportunity Center is home to our three organizations, along with other nonprofits working to make a difference across Middle Tennessee. It's a place where connections are made, resources are shared, and young people can find the support and opportunities they need to thrive.

And a HUGE thank you to the generous partners who helped make this purchase possible! We couldn't have done it without you!

It looks like showing up in schools. Sitting beside someone on a hard day. Helping a young person find their way forward. Connecting people to treatment, support, and resources. And being there for the moments, big and small, that can change a life.

For more than 40 years, STARS has grown and changed alongside the needs of our community, but the reason we’re here has stayed the same.

We love getting out into our community and making connections!

Recently, our team joined the Hermitage and Central Precincts for Golfing with a Cop, connected with the East Precinct at a community board meeting, and attended the Alcoholics Anonymous Recovery Festival.

These moments give us the chance to build relationships, share resources, and make sure first responders know how STARS can help connect people with treatment and support when they need it.

The more connected we are, the easier it is to help someone find the right support at the right time!

Creating safer, more supportive schools takes giving young people and the adults around them the tools to recognize bullying, respond effectively, build stronger relationships, and create a school culture where everyone feels like they belong.

At STARS, bullying prevention has long been part of our work with schools and communities through youth programs, professional development, and proven training programs.

Because every student deserves to feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
