Interested in advancing your practice as a paramedic? The 16-week Critical Care Paramedic Program provides intensive classroom instruction and clinical training in various Vanderbilt Health critical care settings and intensive care units. The class meets once a week on Wednesdays Upon successful completion, students are eligible to sit for the Tennessee exam. Two years of advanced practice experience as a paramedic is required. Meet Luis, a member of our Van Transport team, who has transported patients to the next step in their care for nearly a decade. He started with the program when we just had one van offering transport five days a week, and has seen the program grow to 24/7 coverage with three vans and a stretcher van. Each shift, he completes five to 10 transports, often to rehab centers, assisted living facilities and round-trip appointments. Every day he works with one goal in mind: keeping patients safe and comfortable. Getting to know the patients is one of his favorite parts of the job. "Everyone has their own take on life, and one of the best parts of my role is getting to have these conversations with people." We are extremely grateful for Luis and his dedication to our program.

As we close out Emergency Nurses Week, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible emergency nurses we have the privilege of working alongside every day.

To celebrate their dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to patient advocacy, our team visited several emergency departments to recognize a few outstanding nurses with Certificates of Recognition. We also stopped by emergency departments throughout our service area to share some treats and goodies as a small token of appreciation for all they do.

Thank you to every emergency nurse for your hard work, resilience, and the exceptional care you provide to patients and families when they need it most. We are proud to partner with you each day.

Vanderbilt LifeFlight is launching a new Critical Care Paramedic Mentorship Program designed for paramedics interested in advancing their clinical knowledge and preparing for future opportunities in critical care transport and flight medicine.

Participants will receive mentorship from experienced ground critical care or flight paramedics, hands-on learning opportunities, ride-alongs, specialized training, and professional development throughout this year-long program. Applicants must have at least two years of paramedic experience in 911, ER tech or interfacility transport with an interest in advancing clinical knowledge of pursuing critical care and/or flight medicine. We had a blast collaborating with Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital for our trauma conference at the Clarksville Regional Airport on Sept. 15! First responders from across the region came together for educational sessions focused on trauma care, burn treatment, stroke recognition and more. Thank you to all of our speakers who joined us for this impactful event and to all the attendees!
