Our second stop of the day was at The Crestmoor at Green Hills , where we were joined by Gracelyn Eaves-Miss Davidson County Volunteer, to share the sweetness and history of Donut Day with all of the wonderful people living there!

Our first stop for Donut Day was Fox’s Donut Den this morning. We want to say a huge THANK YOU to their team for partnering with us!!

We enjoyed meeting everyone who came by for a donut and to talk to Major Mockabee about the work being done everyday here in our community.

🍩 The Salvation Army Lassies stepped onto the front lines of WWI with one mission: bring comfort where it was most needed.

A warm doughnut became a reminder that someone cared, and that one act of love has rippled through generations.

Today, hundreds of families across The Salvation Army Nashville find comfort, support, and hope through our supportive housing, food services, and financial assistance.

🍩National Doughnut Day celebrates kindness that still changes lives.

“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
1 Corinthians 13:7

At The Salvation Army Nashville, we live that out every day, serving families in crisis, walking with people in recovery, feeding neighbors who are hungry, and offering hope to anyone who needs a place to rest and rebuild.

Because love isn’t just something we feel, it’s something we do… together.

Last week, we came together to host a bridal shower for the upcoming wedding of Lt. Lorine Desardouin, Corps officer at The Salvation Army Nashville Citadel , and Cadet (soon to be Lt.) Robert Moose. We celebrate this next chapter in their lives and look forward to welcoming Cadet Robert as he joins her as a Corps Officer at the Citadel at the end of June!

More than a century ago, the “Donut Lassies” entered the WWI huts with hands full of flour, sugar, and the honest intention to lift the spirits of the soldiers who were far from home. Against all odds, that small act of kindness made a lasting difference.

On June 7, 1938, The Salvation Army first celebrated National Doughnut Day as a fundraiser during the Great Depression to support families facing hardship. A wonderful act that mirrored and honored the legacy of those courageous women.

Today, at The Salvation Army Nashville, we carry this purpose forward each day, meeting local needs with love and compassion through our food pantries 🍽️ and sack lunches 📦.

A simple recipe in action.
A lasting impact.

Because from the very beginning, the first ingredient was love.
