On Thursday evening at 8:00 PM, the Tennessee House of Representatives paused to honor State Representative G.A. Hardaway, Sr. for his 20 years of dedicated service to the people of Tennessee.
Presented by Chairman Jesse Chism on behalf of the Tennessee Black Caucus of State Legislators, the resolution recognized a legacy of leadership, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to community. Representative Hardaway was not present for the tribute — yet the respect and admiration from his colleagues filled the chamber.
Just hours later, at 5:22 AM the following morning, Representative Hardaway passed away.
What was meant to be a moment of recognition has now become something far deeper — a final, living tribute offered in real time by those who served beside him.
His impact on this state, his district, and the Tennessee Black Caucus of State Legislators will not be forgotten. His voice, his work, and his legacy endure.
We honor not only his years of service, but the timing of this moment — a reminder of the profound respect he carried among his peers and the lasting imprint he leaves behind.
Rest in power, Representative G.A. Hardaway, Sr. 🕊️
