On August 13th, 1894, a black woman named Maggie Hatchet died in Nashville. The location given in records was an alley near the Nashville & Northwestern Railroad trestle. (By this time the N&NW RR was part of the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway)

Alexander Mason joined the 12th USCT at Elk River Bridge in Sept of 1863. By Sept of 1864 he was awaiting a court martial sentence for going AWOL. He would find himself receiving 6 months confinement at hard labor and pay stoppage. In December of 1865 he was listed as a deserter, a charge which would be later removed in his pension record.
