On Monday, January 19, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—a leader whose legacy reminds us that service to others is one of the most powerful ways to create meaningful change.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service, encouraging us to pause, reflect, and consider how we can strengthen the communities around us.
Whether through volunteering, supporting a neighbor, or finding small ways to show up for others, every action matters. Together, we can help build stronger, kinder, and more connected communities.

May is a time to recognize and learn about the history and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) individuals in the United States. Representing nearly 8% of the population, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are the fastest-growing and largest foreign-born ethnic group in the country. Increasing our awareness of this representation can help us provide high-quality care and address health disparities within these communities.

During a normal shift as an Emergency Medicine physician, Dr. Stephanie Zguris encounters plenty of unusual situations. In this case, her thoroughness prevented a patient from suffering a catastrophic outcome.
A male in his 50s presented to the emergency room with chest pain and vomiting. The original team that saw the patient ordered an evaluation for possible heart attack and a chest CT scan to evaluate for blood clots as well. The CT scan did not show a blood clot (but there was another diagnosis the CT was unable to evaluate for based on the way it was ordered). Meanwhile, the patient continued to have severe chest pain, and when Dr. Zguris re-evaluated the patient, she noted the patient did not have a detectable pulse in his left arm. Dr. Zguris reviewed the imaging work and noticed the dye on the CT scan did not opacity the aorta.
She immediately ordered a second CT scan which identified tearing of the aorta, and then sent the patient immediately to the operating room for emergency surgery to repair the aortic dissection. A few days later, the patient was about to walk out of the hospital under their own power thanks to Dr. Zguris' thoroughness in giving this case a second look.
Thank you, Dr. Zguris for making a great catch and putting patient safety first!

Each year since 1987, the United States has recognized March as National . At Envision, this is a time to acknowledge the women who have positively impacted our lives and elevate the contributions of trailblazing women in healthcare- both as a healthcare organization and as advocates for better health outcomes.
This year’s theme, “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations,” encourages reflection on both the progress made and the work that remains. This theme is particularly significant in healthcare, where women make up over 70% of the workforce and continue to face significant health disparities in the United States.
