“LWV is appalled to witness the Tennessee legislature deconstruct representative democracy in our state. Redistricting with the intent of silencing, the voices of the Black and Brown voters of Memphis/Shelby County is in affront to the very founding tenets of America.”
-Debby Gould, LWVTN President

🚨 URGENT: Our voting rights are under attack — and Tennesseans need to speak up NOW.
Governor Lee has called a special session beginning Tuesday, May 5, in direct response to a Supreme Court decision that strips critical voting rights protections. The legislature's goal? Redraw Tennessee's nine Congressional Districts to split Memphis/Shelby County into three parts — effectively silencing the community's voice in Congress and making it harder for Black and brown voters to elect the representatives they choose.
The League of Women Voters of Memphis and Tennessee strongly oppose this action. This is a direct attack on our representative democracy, and we're standing with our partner organizations to say: ENOUGH.
📢 Your voice matters. Contact your legislators. Show up. Speak out. Democracy only works when we fight for it.
