🎉 Congratulations to Hattie Cotton Elementary! 🎉
We are proud to celebrate being awarded the TVA STEM Grant! This exciting opportunity will allow us to continue expanding hands-on, engaging learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, and math for our students.

Our Pre-K–2nd graders had the BEST time today with author Margaret Renkl and illustrator Billy Renkl! 🌿📚
They shared their new book, The Weedy Garden, and our students were completely engaged and inspired. Such a special day celebrating reading, art, and nature! 🌼✨

Metro Schools is now registering for Promising Scholars, our no cost summer learning program for students who will be entering kindergarten through 12th grades in August. This year, the program runs May 28 through June 26. Breakfast, lunch and transportation is provided, and sites are located across the district.
Each site will offer a mix of classroom learning: science, technology and art activities; physical activity and other fun experiences. K-8 students will attend for a full day and students in grades 9-12 will attend a half day.

MNPS community, Metro Schools will be closed tomorrow, February 2. District and school-based staff will report to work on a half-day schedule. The full length of today’s message and update has been sent via email and telephone, and also can be found on https://www.mnps.org/students-families/weather
We know families depend on our schools not only for learning but also for a warm, welcoming environment, and access to nutritious meals. We will continue working closely with city partners as we plan for the re-opening of schools. We hope you stay safe and warm while the recovery from the winter storm continues.

MNPS community, to support families and staff impacted by the winter storm, we will distribute free hot meals and winter clothing from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31 at:
- Tusculum Elementary School – 440 McMurray Drive
- Shwab Elementary School – 1500 Dickerson Pike
- Pearl-Cohn High School – 904 26th Avenue North
While supplies last.
This event, in collaboration with Mercy Chefs and World Central Kitchen, is open to the community and is intended to assist families experiencing hardship due to power outages and other impacts from the storm.
