A denied unemployment claim can derail a family's stability — but a denial isn't always the final word. Our attorneys help workers appeal and fight for the benefits they've earned.
If you or someone you know has been denied, reach out. It costs nothing to ask.

Most people think eviction is what happens when someone can't pay rent.
Eviction doesn't just follow poverty — it causes it. Losing housing means losing stability, losing jobs, losing school enrollment, losing the address you need to apply for benefits.
One eviction can set a family back years.
At Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, our housing and benefits team sees this every day. We don't just show up after the crisis. We work to stop the spiral before it starts.

When a loved one can no longer make decisions on their own, the people who love them most are suddenly faced with questions they never expected to answer.
What are my legal rights as a caregiver? How do I protect them officially? Where do I even start?
Our Volunteer Lawyer Program helps caregivers navigate conservatorships — so you can focus on the people who need you most. You don't have to figure this out alone.

Today we honor the men and women who gave everything in service to this country.
At Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, we also think about the veterans who come home still fighting — for their benefits, their housing, their families, and their futures.
Veterans face unique legal challenges: denied VA benefits, discharge status issues, housing instability, and family law matters that don't pause for service. As Tennessee's largest nonprofit law firm, we're proud to serve those who served us.
If you're a veteran — or know one — who needs free legal help, we're here. las.org

Behind every case at Legal Aid Society is a team that makes the work possible — and Marletta is a big part of that in our Clarksville office.
As a paralegal on our housing and benefits team, Marletta is often the first voice a client hears, the person who helps them gather what they need, and the steady presence that keeps things moving when everything else feels uncertain.
She shows up. Every day. For the people who need it most.
Meet Marletta and the rest of the team behind free legal help across Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands. We are LAS. 💙

💛 A huge thank you to Catholic Charities for hosting their Baby Fair on May 13 in Columbia — and for the incredible work they do every day for our community.
Catholic Charities has long been a cornerstone of support for families in our area, connecting moms and children with resources, care, and compassion when they need it most. The Baby Fair brought that mission to life — gathering community partners, service providers, and approximately 100 attendees in one place to celebrate and support local families.
We were proud to have Attorney Patty Sellars and Domestic Violence Advocate Nathalie Long representing LAS at the event, sharing information about our services with the moms and families in attendance.
Events like this are only possible because of organizations like Catholic Charities, who show up — day in and day out — to strengthen the fabric of our community. Thank you for including us and for all that you do. 🙏
