I am honored to have the endorsement of Tennessee Senate Minority Leader Raumesh Akbari.
Senator Akbari has been a tireless advocate for Memphis families, working to expand economic opportunity, strengthen our schools, and fight for justice in every corner of our community. Her leadership has helped move our city and state forward, and I am grateful for her confidence in our campaign.
I’m proud to have Senator Akbari on our team, and I look forward to working alongside her to deliver results for District 84 in Nashville.

🚧 Attention Whitehaven Community! 🚧
If you’ve been driving down Elvis Presley Boulevard over the past few years, you’ve probably asked the same questions many of us have:
➡️ What exactly is happening with this project?
➡️ When will construction finally be complete?
➡️ How will this impact our neighborhoods, businesses, and daily commutes?
Join us for an important Town Hall Meeting to get real updates and answers directly from the agencies involved.
We’ll hear presentations from TDOT, MLGW, and the City of Memphis, followed by an open Q&A with community members and officials.
📍 Southwest Tennessee Community College – Whitehaven Campus

Proud to share that the Higher Education Purchasing Act is now law.
For too long, private nonprofit colleges and universities in Tennessee—including many minority-serving institutions—have paid higher prices for the exact same goods and services available to public institutions through state purchasing contracts.
This law helps level the playing field by allowing eligible private institutions to access the same cooperative purchasing opportunities available to public colleges and universities—helping schools save resources that can instead be invested in students, instruction, financial aid, and campus operations.
Grateful to Rep. for bringing me this innovative bill to sponsor in the Senate.

“Ours is not the struggle of one day, one week, or one year. Ours is not the struggle of one judicial appointment or presidential term. Ours is the struggle of a lifetime, or maybe even many lifetimes, and each one of us in every generation must do our part.”
-Congressman John Lewis

We voted and now I’m headed to Nashville. It is absolutely unreal that on Election Day, I’m headed to Nashville for a special legislative session to fight against discriminatory congressional maps specifically designed to dilute the black vote in Memphis. I never thought in my lifetime I’d witness such an extreme attack and rollback of civil rights. But like the late Congressman John Lewis said, “Ours is not the struggle of one day, one week, or one year. Ours is not the struggle of one judicial appointment or presidential term. Ours is the struggle of a lifetime, or maybe even many lifetimes, and each one of us in every generation must do our part.”
We must do our part.

Good News: SB 1213 is now law!
This legislation ensures that English language learners can receive the same language support during state testing that they rely on in the classroom—because a test shouldn’t create new barriers. It should measure what a student knows, not just how they test.
We have to meet our students where they are, and give them the tools they need to be successful.

And just like that, the 114th Tennessee General Assembly has adjourned, sine die! This was my lucky 13th session, and I can sum it all up with one word- grateful. I’m grateful for the privilege to serve the people of Senate District 29, for my incredible team (The Dream Team), and the resilient and determined Senate Democratic Caucus!
In the next few days, I’ll have a more comprehensive legislative update, but for now- SINE DIE!
