๐จ COMMUNITY SAFETY RESOURCE ๐จ
Sadly, our community has once again been reminded of the devastating consequences that can occur when a child gains access to an unsecured firearm.
Following a previous tragedy involving a child and a firearm, we are heartbroken to learn of another reported incident on May 28th, where a 2-year-old child gained access to a gun inside the home and suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
These incidents are painful reminders of why safe handgun storage is so important. Taking a few extra seconds to secure a firearm can help prevent a lifetime of heartbreak.
In response, the Community Outreach Team of the Juvenile Court of Metropolitan Nashville & Davidson County will have a table set up in the lobby of the Juvenile Justice Center, located at 100 Woodland Street, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., to provide free gun cable locks while supplies last.
Community members are welcome to stop by, pick up a free gun lock, and receive information on gun safety and safe storage in the home.
This is not about blame. It is about prevention, responsibility, and protecting our children.
Please help us spread the word.

Last evening, Juvenile Court of Metropolitan Nashville & Davidson County had the distinct honor of celebrating a truly special group of individualsโour volunteersโduring our Volunteer Appreciation Event held at the beautiful facilities of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
With more than 70 dedicated volunteers in attendance, the evening served as a meaningful reminder of the heart, compassion, and commitment that each of you brings to our work every single day.
Under the leadership of Judge Sheila Calloway, along with Senior Court Administration and staff, we took time to pause and say what cannot be said enough: Thank You.
Your service is not just appreciatedโit is essential.
Because of you, children and families in our community are seen, supported, and guided. Because of you, hope is extended in moments where it is needed most. And because of you, our mission to prevent problems, promote positive potential, and pursue fairness and hope becomes a reality.
You are more than volunteers.
