Did you know candy corn has agricultural roots?

First created in the 1880s by George Renninger for the Wunderle Candy Co., candy corn was originally marketed as “Chicken Feed.” Its kernel shape reflected America’s strong agricultural identity at the time, when many families lived and worked on farms.

The familiar yellow, orange and white colors represent corn and the colors of the autumn harvest. Although candy corn is now associated with Halloween, it began as a year-round treat inspired by rural life and agriculture.

Candy corn is more than a Halloween treat; it is a sweet reminder of America’s agricultural heritage!

We had a pumpkin-filled day at the Tennessee Agricultural Museum! 🎃

Participants learned how pumpkins are grown in Tennessee, explored the many ways they can be used and created colorful pumpkin art with stickers and paint.

The Tennessee Agricultural Museum is welcoming the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum for a free, hands-on program for children. Young guests will explore Tennessee’s rich musical heritage, discover the stories behind the music and try out a variety of instruments.

A big thank-you to the Davidson County Master Gardeners for a fantastic event this past Saturday! 🌿
