The Artifact Alphabet this week is L! L is for lamp.
Before modern electricity and the invention of automobiles, people used carriages or buggies to get around. When traveling at night, they used oil lamps like this one to help them see. A lamp would be attached to each side of the carriage, or there might be just one near the driver.

We're not rocking the jukebox at the Tennessee Agricultural Museum!

For our first Summer Friday of the year, students explored the sounds of Southern music with the help of our special guests from The Country Music Hall of Fame! Participants were able to strum, pluck, and tap a beat with this hands-on experience.

Keep an eye on our Eventbrite for our upcoming Summer Friday programs! There are still spots available.

The Artifact Alphabet this week is K! K is for key.
Keys are common artifacts used in everyday life. One of the keys in the museum’s collection was used by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. On one side, the key is stamped “L&N R.R.” and “C.” On the back, it says “Speckmann Lou KY.”
The “C” on the key means it unlocked one of the cars. Railroad companies often stamped codes on their keys to help identify what each key unlocked.
