On this, the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, we remember all those who participated in the largest seaborne invasion in history.

It was one of my greatest honors as a state representative to be able to formally honor the brave soldiers and military personnel who participated in D-Day by authoring and passing Pub. Ch. 601 (2024), formally annually recognizing June 6th as “D-Day Remembrance Day” in Tennessee.

Tennessee House speaker, U.S. senator challenge Nashville mayor’s request for TIRRC funding • Tennessee Lookout 06/05/2026

Yet another abuse of power and attack on our democratic institutions by targeting a non-profit organization that amplifies underrepresented voices, serves underserved communities and advocates for all of our rights as Americans.

Marsha & Sexton are again attempting to distract from their corrupt president's and party's abysmal economic record, skyrocketing prices of groceries and gas, and an unpopular war of choice. Their continued obsequious bootlicking of this corrupt president and his minions knows no end.

Providing legal assistance to Tennesseans is more important now than ever. Republicans have done their best to rig the legal system by stacking courts, creating three-judge panels, limiting constitutional challenges, amending the rules of procedure, and trampling on judicial precedent. Now they're attacking organizations like Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition [TIRRC] that help provide legal representation to Tennesseans who require it because their rights are under attack by their own government.

If Marsha would actually do the work she was elected to do - like fixing a broken federal immigration system, lowering the cost of living for working families and improving Tennesseans quality of life - Tennessee would be far better off.

Unfortunately, after 25 years in DC, Marsha has not only failed to offer any solutions, she's opposed both Republican and Democrat-led efforts to reform our nation's broken immigration system - a broken system that makes it even more necessary for non-profit organizations to provide legal assistance to immigrants who are trying to comply with the labyrinthian immigration process.

Tennessee lawmakers push ban on state property tax • Tennessee Lookout 06/02/2026

We don't have a state property tax. No one has proposed a state property tax. I've never heard from anyone who wants a state property tax.

“I wish Republicans would put as much effort into working with us Democrats to lower the cost of living for working Tennesseans as they put into amending the state Constitution.”

Love seeing packed rooms for neighborhood organization meetings. Organized communities full of active and informed neighbors and volunteer leaders make a real difference across our city.

TN unemployment low, but sheds jobs for the 5th month in a row • Tennessee Lookout 06/01/2026

Over a month ago, I joined a state senate colleague in pointing out that our state, under Gov. Bill Lee and the Republican supermajority, has experienced 0% job growth for two consecutive years. Now, the BLS has released more data showing the first contraction in our overall labor force that Tennessee has seen outside the coronavirus pandemic in a decade.

"Tennessee’s unemployment rate remains at 3.6%, but for the fifth month in a row, the number of people employed statewide has dropped, newly released data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, BLS, shows. Around 3.42 million Tennesseans were employed in November 2025, and that number has now fallen to 3.38 million as of April."

Tennessee ranks #44 out of 50 states in America's Health Rankings, and the numbers behind that ranking tell a very important story.

Over 300,000 Tennesseans are uninsured with no access to healthcare, and that number is growing every single day. Meanwhile, $1.4 billion in federal tax dollars sit in Washington each year, waiting to be used in Tennessee.

81,000 Tennesseans fall in what's called the "coverage gap," meaning they earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but too little to afford marketplace subsidies. Tennessee is one of only 10 states that has still refused to expand Medicaid (as of February 2025), leaving hundreds of thousands without a path to affordable healthcare.

And 1.5 million Tennesseans went through the Medicaid "unwinding” process in 2024, which terminated over 500,000 people from Medicaid's TennCare.
