A new partnership between Metro’s Public Health Department, Nashville General Hospital, and the Office of Family Safety means a new on-site medical clinic at OFS for victims of abuse & trauma. It’s the latest tool for those in need and will help us in the Nashville District Attorney’s office hold offenders accountable. Congratulations to Director Diane Lance and her team at the Metro Nashville Office of Family Safety.

We thank them all for their dedication and compassion. A great ceremony with words of appreciation from Mayor Freddie O’Connell, Police Chief John Drake, Fire Chief William Swann, Family Safety Office Director Diane Lance, and Nashville District Attorney Glenn Funk. Thanks also to the Music City Strings for the entertainment!

The man who gunned down 18-year-old Jillian Ludwig in 2023 near her Belmont Campus pleads guilty to 2nd Degree Murder and will spend 38 years in prison. Shaquille Taylor entered the plea today for Jillian’s murder and aggravated assault charges from an earlier case. During today’s victim impact statements, Jillian’s parents were critical of past medical evaluations that deemed Taylor incompetent to stand trial of previous offenses prior to Jillian’s murder. After Jillian’s death, General Glenn Funk worked with state lawmakers and the family to pass ‘Jillian’s Law’, making those found to be mentally incompetent more accountable for their crimes. Jillian’s family has set up a non-profit called the Rae of Light Foundation to help other states pass similar legislation. As Jillian’s mother said today, ‘Rest in Peace my sweet petunia. You will never be forgotten.’
