Happy National Yo-Yo Day from LSDHH!

A yo-yo works because of connection. Communication works the same way.

Accessibility helps connect people through:

1. Captions
2. American Sign Language (ASL)
3. Assistive Technology
4. Inclusive Spaces
5. And many more!

When we create accessible environments, we help everyone participate, communicate, and belong. Today, we're celebrating the many ways accessibility helps build stronger connections in our communities.

Access for All. Connection for All.

Have you ever found yourself in a conversation where multiple people were talking at the same time?

For many Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, situations like this can be challenging. It can be difficult to follow conversations when speakers talk quickly, take turns without visual cues, cover their mouths, or speak from different directions.

Communication access is something many Deaf and hard of hearing people navigate every day.

What would you do if someone told you they were having trouble following the conversation? Share your ideas in the comments below!

Words matter, and different people may prefer different ways of describing disability, Deaf identity, autism, and other experiences.

Some people prefer person-first language, while others prefer identity-first language. There is no one-size-fits-all answer. What matters most is respect, listening, and honoring how people choose to identify themselves. 💙

This post is meant to encourage understanding, inclusion, and conversation. When in doubt, ask respectfully and listen.

Digital Accessibility Tip

Using descriptive link text helps make digital content more accessible for everyone, including people who use screen readers. Instead of using vague phrases like “Click here,” use clear wording such as “Learn more about our accessibility services” so readers know exactly where the link will take them.

Small changes like this can make a big difference in creating a more inclusive online experience for all.
