A heads-up for RTS users: Beginning October 1, the price of Needham’s Pay-As- You-Throw (PAYT) yellow trash bags will increase by 3% to keep pace with rising waste disposal costs. This is the first increase in yellow bag prices since October 2024.

The new prices for packages of 10 bags will be:

• Large bags: $22.25 (currently $21.60)
• Small bags: $11.95 (currently $11.60)

Needham's PAYT system, which launched in 1998, encourages residents to throw away less by recycling and composting more. Reducing the amount of trash sent for disposal can also help control the Town’s waste disposal costs.

Our last Paint Reuse & Recycle Day is tomorrow Saturday, October 17 at the Recycling Transfer Station!

Needham Residents with a RTS sticker are welcome to drop off unused paint for free from 8:00am - 3:30pm.

NOTE: The Re-Use-It Swap Shop will be closed on Paint Collection Days.

If you've driven on a recently treated road in Needham and noticed a textured surface or some loose stones, you may have wondered why the Town uses rubber chip seal instead of repaving.

Rubber chip seal is a proven pavement preservation treatment that helps keep roads in good condition by sealing small cracks, preventing water from damaging the pavement, and slowing normal wear and tear. By treating roads before they require major repairs, the Town can extend the life of its roads and make the most of available funding. Needham DPW has used this treatment for more than 30 years as part of its long-term pavement management program.

After the rubber chip treatment is applied, some loose stone is normal. The DPW’s Highway Division schedules multiple street sweepings to remove excess stone, with additional cleanup completed as needed to help keep roads safe and maintain a clean roadway surface.
