Imposter tape measure I work in a hardware store. I received a Stanley tape measure in freight the other day, the classic one everybody has, same model number as the other 25' Powerlocks we have, and immediately I notice something off about it. Here is a side by side comparison to the ones we typically have. The font is different, the logo is larger, and its not just the angle in the photo, the metal casing is actually slightly less tall. I think it feels ever so slightly lighter weight, but have not verified this with a scale. Is this a change in design, or due to a different supplier? This new one is manufactured in Thailand, could that be the reason?

Home depot lock nuts locked way too hard

The lock nuts and the bolts are both 3/8-16, advertised as 304 stainless from Home Depot. The lock nuts threaded on nice and smoothly as usual until 4 or 5 threads were sticking out past the nylon. Then things started getting too tight. I was not trying to turn it onto the unthreaded part of the bolt, it just got tight on the threads. It was not tight against the washer, neither bolt/nut set was tight against their washers when the nut started to become super difficult to turn. Obviously, it really did become super difficult to turn bc I broke two 3/8" bolts. After the first one broke I figured I might as well just do it to the second one too bc I don't want to angle grind in this space.

Both bolts broke while I was trying to unscrew the nut. And you can tell by the threads sticking out past the nylon of the lock nut that they're not scored as they would be if the nut had the wrong threading.

I'm going to replace the hardware with bolts/nuts from McMaster-Carr, but WTF happened here!?

Any hope for this old timer?

Found this old guy in a bucket of hand tools I purchased off a neighbor a few months ago. Finally got the chance to go through it.

It's got about 90 degrees of free rotation, so I'm guessing broken teeth? I haven't seen one of these in the wild before so I'm doubtful about a Lowe's/Ace Hardware replacement. Does anyone have any experience?
