Hello Library Friends!
You may have noticed that you need to enter a pin number to sign in to your Libby App.

Here are the steps to take:
You'll need to enter both your library card number and your PIN to sign in to the Libby app.

Your Libby PIN is the same PIN you use to access your library account through LinkCat.
The default pin is your birth month and birth day. If you were born on March 15, your PIN is 0315.

If you changed your LinkCat PIN, that is the same PIN number you need to use for Libby.

Don't remember your PIN? Call or stop in and we can help you get back to business!

Session 1 is already full, but if we get at least 10 more people, I can open up a second session from 3:30-5:30pm on Saturday, November 14, 2026.

This will be at the Charles & JoAnn Lester Library at 100 Park St in Nekoosa.

We are limited to 15 people for the 2nd session, but I would like at least 10 to make it worth the time and cost. This program has a minimum age requirement of 10 years old, and a parent must attend the program with their child. Ages 16 and up can participate without restriction.

If you can commit to the 3:30-5:30 pm session, please call the library at 715-886-7879 to reserve your spot.

I would like to gauge interest for a potential event the week of November 16th.

I’ve been hearing about “Merry Thriftmas”. Personally, I love the thrill of the hunt, and I love to see gently used items get a second life.

Are you downsizing some of your extensive entertaining items? Need to w**d some Christmas ornaments? Have a small tabletop tree? Christmas decor that isn’t “your style” anymore?
How about those kids’ toys that have been gently loved, and are ready for a new kid?

Other items that would be of interest: gently used kids books, especially Christmas themed.

Gently used winter coats and boots.

Start a new family tradition items- That old whirlypop popcorn popper or hot air popper that been sitting in the closet would make a great gift!

The idea is to have clean, working, and plenty of life in them items brought into the library. You can choose to bring a bag and receive a coupon to fill a bag, or you can just outright donate items.

Families who might be facing a tight Christmas could come in and do some “shopping”.

Likewise, if you have some items that might be a good gift for kids to give a parent- an unused candle that you don’t like the scent of, some gently used necklaces that never get worn, some Bath & Bodyworks soap that gives you a headache, gently used hardcover books, a board game they could play together, a candy dish that’s been lurking and waiting to be used.
I would love to be able to offer that to the kids in our community!

Other ideas:

• The "Cozy Night In" Book Bundle: Stack 2 or 3 beautiful, gently-used books tied together with a wide velvet or satin ribbon. You can theme them around cooking (vintage cookbooks), cozy fiction, or beautiful hardback art books.

• The Hot Cocoa / Coffee Kit: 2-4 mugs in a basket with a box of hot cocoa packets, sample size flavored coffees, or assorted teabags.

2 or 3 Christmas DVDs you no longer watch and some microwave popcorn.

I have “culled the herd” of my wrapping paper collection. I plan to set up a gift wrap station for parents and kids to use.

**PLEASE NO ALCOHOL OR SMOKING PARAPHERNALIA.**
I’m running a family show here, folks! 😀

If this sounds like something you may be interested in, drop a comment below.

If this sounds like something you might be able to spare an hour, I would welcome the help! Ideally, we would run this for 2-3 days- Thursday, Friday, and Saturday during normal library hours.

If you like the idea, but it isn’t “your thing” a small monetary donation would help us “round out” certain items like mugs with a box of cocoa, or an air popper with some popcorn and a flavored topping, or a candy dish with a bag of candy.

I wasn’t sure what to post today.

I will never forget…watching the first tower on fire, and thinking “it was probably an accident…” and then seeing the second plane hit and realizing life as I knew it had completely changed in a moment.

I will never forget….the absolutely horrific images from that day, which I am choosing to not post. I think we all wish we could forget that part.

I will never forget…how the world completely changed in less than an hour. These will be the only photos I post.

I will never forget… the humanity in the chaos. People were just people, doing their best to help each other. Nothing else really mattered.

I will never forget…those who were lost that day. 2,605 Americans.

I will never forget… the 102 nations that lost their citizens that day in the Towers and on the planes.

I will never forget… Canada graciously welcoming and caring for over 30,000 people who were stranded when American airspace closed. They opened their schools, their hotels and lodges, and their own homes to strangers.

I will never forget…the unity, the kindness, and the compassion in the days after.

And I am reminded of a lyric from a song, that I have changed slightly:

Twenty five years have come and gone as we watched with shock and horror
We never quite made it back
to the ones we were before.

🎉 September is Library Card Month!
And around here, we think that’s worth celebrating!

Did you know that libraries haven’t always worked the way they do today? In the early days, you had to stay at the library to read the books. Taking one home? Nope! 😡

Then along came Benjamin Franklin. He believed books should be available to everyone. When the town of Franklin, Massachusetts asked Ben for a church bell, he sent them 116 books instead! 😊

He encouraged the town to let people borrow the books for free—and what a great idea that turned out to be!

Today, your library card gets you WAY more than books!
🎬 Movies
🎲 Board & video games
🥫 Canning equipment
🏓 Pickleball equipment
🎣 Fishing poles
🧩 Puzzles…and lots, LOTS more!

And here's one of our favorite perks: FREE family passes to places like Historic Point Basse, Food+Farm, and the Central Wisconsin Children’s Museum! 🎟️❤️

As soon as the Nekoosa zipcode of 54457 was included in Dolly’s Imagination Library, I made sure to stop in at United Way of South Wood and Adams Counties to pick up the sign up cards.

Over the years, library staff and I have signed MANY kids up for the program. We always have forms available at the desk.

I am including a link to our local United Way: https://www.uwswac.org/dpil

For $35 you can sponsor a year of books for a child under 5.

I know many local teachers, especially in the lower grades are always adding high interest books to their classroom libraries.

If news of Dolly’s passing has you feeling “I need to be more like Dolly”, please consider a donation to our local United Way, or reach out to your child’s or grandchild’s teacher and surprise them with a donation for their classroom libraries! I know both the students and the teachers would greatly appreciate it.
