A Fireman's Prayer, Author A.W. "Smokey" Linn

When I am called to duty
God, whenever flames may rage
Give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age. Help me embrace a little child before it is too late
Or save an older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout
And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out. I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me
To guard my every neighbor and protect his property. And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life
Please bless with your protecting hand my children and my wife.

With cooler temperatures approaching, we thought we'd share some wise words of wisdom from our friends at the Monmouth County Fire Marshal's Office.

Fall Transition & Heating Equipment Check 🍂
Autumn is coming—is your heating system ready?
September brings cooler nights to Monmouth County. Before you turn on your heat or light the fireplace for the first time, Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office and Fire Academy would like you to take these simple safety steps:
• Have a professional inspect and clean your chimney and furnace.
• Keep anything that can burn at least three feet away from heating equipment.
• Never use your oven or stove to warm your home.
• Test your carbon monoxide (CO) detectors to ensure they are functioning perfectly.

Don't wait for the first freeze. Schedule your heating inspection this week!

25 years have passed, but one thing remains the same. We remember.

We pause to honor the responders who gave their lives on this somber day. We speak their names and know in our hearts that we walk in the sacrifice that they put forward.
