Thank you to everyone who came to speak at the Council meeting tonight. We voted in a 6 month moratorium on data centers with the direction of a Mayoral appointed committee being formed to research and develop a plan for changing our city code, addressing planning and zoning issues and any other city policy that needs to be addressed before any data centers are given any licenses or permits to build within the city.

10/11/2026

Just a reminder that we will be talking about instituting a moratorium on data centers and similar facilities at the council meeting tomorrow at 6pm at city hall. Please come and have your thoughts heard.

After having several community members come to our last meeting asking for a moratorium on data centers in Nevada city limits I have asked for it to be added to our next council meeting agenda on October 12th.

If you would like to provide input and have your thoughts shared with the Council you can do that several ways:

-Attending the meeting at 6pm on the 12th and speaking

-Email your thoughts to the city clerk at [email protected] where all emails will be shared with the Council

or

-Email your City Councilors directly

GOOD NEWS FOR THOSE WHO LOVE NEVADA’S IN-TOWN FISHING PONDS
Tyler Stubbs, a Community Fisheries Biologist with the Iowa DNR, shows off a channel catfish that was raised at the DNR’s Rathbun Fish Hatchery. These 7-10" channel catfish have now been stocked in three of Nevada's local ponds. Local ponds have now been stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill and channel catfish.

The City of Nevada values their partnership with the Iowa DNR and the stocking of local ponds. For more information on public fishing ponds visit www.iowadnr.gov/fishlocal.

Please remember that you must have a fishing license if you are 16 years of age or older to fish public community ponds.

A Trunkline Rehabilitation Project is anticipated to start today along the City Trail system.
While all of the City Trail system will remain open for use, residents may encounter work vehicles on the trail.
We'd ask you to use caution when using the trail, go slower in places where you can't see as far ahead, and give plenty of space to workers so we can keep the trail open during this project.
At this time, we are uncertain how long the project will last.
