5:30 update: the repair is complete and water service has been restored to the area. We are now focused on system flushing.

NALGW water customers on Moss Hill Drive between Robbins Dr and Fairground Spur, a boring crew has damaged our water main in this area. Our Crew is preparing to make the repair. They will have to turn the water off on this section of main during the repair. We’re hopeful service will be restored within a couple of hours (before 6:00). This may also disrupt service on some of the side streets off of Moss Hill Drive. When the repair is complete and service is restored this area will likely have discolored water. We will begin flushing immediately following the repair.

NALGW electric customers along the South side of Bankhead Street from Beasleys Funeral Home to the Trail head and into South New Albany

Our crews are having to make an emergency repair later this afternoon and will temporarily de-energize the circuit that feeds this area. We plan to take the circuit off-line about 5 o’clock. It Should be back in 10 or 15 minutes for the majority of the customers. Later in the evening when the repair is complete, the circuit will likely be de-energized again for about 10 or 15 minutes for everything to be tied back together.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but appreciate your patience and cooperation

East Union and Myrtle’s Cyber Foundation programs received a strong investment on Thursday as the two schools were awarded $10,000 in grants from New Albany Light, Gas and Water, partnered with the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Both schools are given $5,000 in funds which are used to enrich student learning in various skills and programs, such as creating and printing 3D models as well as different coding platforms.

“Our mission is to serve the people of the Valley. We need to be in those communities, so we reach out to Bill Maddox [CEO of NALGW] and ask him where the needs are in the community,” said Martha Swindle of the TVA.

Cyber Foundation programs have been a core part of the Union County School District’s effort to invest in their students’ futures, and East Union coding instructor Stephanie Scott has seen the positive impact in her classroom daily.

“My subject is so broad, so we get to touch on tons of different skills and career clusters, trying to find students something they are passionate about… They find these different jobs in technology that they did not know were out there and they want to pursue it and those courses in high school and even in college,” said Scott.

Scott plans to use these funds, among other areas, to update technology to allow her students to have access to the best resources possible for 3D modeling and coding programs.

UCSD superintendent Windy Faulkner says these collaborations of local schools and businesses are essential to continuing to invest in student learning and workforce growth in our area.

“When you have community connections, they are always wanting to help out. So, it allows them to support us and allows us to return the favor whenever we can,” said Faulkner.
