Long before Raleigh became North Carolina's capital, New Bern stood at the center of the state's early political life.

In 1765, Royal Governor William Tryon established New Bern as the first capital of the colony of North Carolina. The city remained a center of political power until 1794, when the capital moved to Raleigh.

More than 250 years later, New Bern's history is still woven into the identity of Craven County.

A place shaped by history, still making history today.

A lot of people know the name Craven 100 Alliance. Fewer know what we actually do.

We're a public-private partnership, funded by the County, the City of New Bern, the City of Havelock, and private investors, that puts real capital behind infrastructure, real estate, and companies choosing to grow here.

That's the model. That's how Craven County keeps building.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Baxter's 1892 in downtown New Bern for the 2026 Craven 100 Alliance Annual Meeting.

A special thank you to our guest speaker, John Longshore, Director of Location Strategy and Development Services at Brasfield & Gorrie, who shared what it takes for communities like ours to compete for investment.

Thank you also to Duke Energy for sponsoring the evening, and to our board and investors for showing up. This momentum is yours.

Twenty-five years ago today, September 11, 2001, changed our nation forever.

We carry that memory close. Today we pause to honor the 2,977 lives lost, and every first responder who answered the call that day and every day since. We remember. We will never forget.

Ask someone why they live in Craven County and you'll get a dozen different answers: historic streets in New Bern, quiet neighborhoods in Havelock, easy access to the coast.

Different towns, same reason: this is a place where life and work don't have to compete.
