We're very excited that our parking lot is going to be resurfaced this weekend! However, this means we will have to close the library while construction is being done. New Bern-Craven County Library will be closed from Saturday, October 10 through Monday, October 12. We will reopen on Tuesday, October 13 for normal business hours.

Please note that our Book Drops will NOT be available beginning Friday at 5:30 pm until we reopen. Late fees will not accrue for materials due while we are closed. You may use the Book Drops at our branches in Havelock, Vanceboro, Pamlico County or Cove City if you prefer. We'll see you Tuesday!

What a wonderful morning celebrating Elinor D. Hawkins Day at the library! We were thrilled to welcome her son, John Hawkins, and his wife Nancy. Mrs. Elinor loved children, so Time Out for Toddlers storytime was extra special today with a visit from Booker the Bear. There is still time to come by and recognize this remarkable woman. We have a display of some of the small treasures she left at the library along with the story of her rich life. It’s also the perfect day to sign up for a new library card or swap your old one out for a new design!

Celebrate Elinor D. Hawkins Day with us at the library this Friday, September 25! We are wearing red in honor of Mrs. Hawkins, who brought the joy of reading to generations of children and made a lasting impact on our local libraries and our community. ❤️

Come celebrate Elinor D. Hawkins Day with us at Craven-Pamlico Regional Library this Friday, September 25th!

Mrs. Hawkins was a champion of children's literacy in our community, and was instrumental in the development of many of our local libraries, as well as our cooperative regional library system. Her warm and engaging storytelling also brought the joy of reading to generations of children through 'Telestory Time,' a children's program that began airing in 1952 and continued to run new episodes until Mrs. Hawkins retired in her 90s.

September 25th was Mrs. Hawkins' birthday, so we are inviting the public to come celebrate with us by wearing red that day in her honor, as it was her favorite color. We're also excited to unveil brand new library card designs, and you can come swap out your old card for free this Friday, September 25! Come check out a new read and discover how Mrs. Hawkins' passion for libraries and literacy continues to make an impact on our community!
