Last night, our Lady Grizzlies Volleyball team competed in this year’s conference tournament. The Grizzlies entered the tournament in a three way tie for first place with Tucker Creek and Pamlico. With so many evenly matched and highly talented teams, each point mattered all night long. Not only were they competing for the tournament title, but with the three way tie, the title of “Conference Champion” was also on the line.
The girls rose to the occasion and fought hard in every rally. They played with intensity, they cheered each other on ceaselessly, and they battled at the net throughout each set. They brought their best effort to the court and it paid off. After defeating the defending champions from last year, Tucker Creek, in the final matchup of the night, the Lady Grizzlies earned not one, but TWO trophies.
But perhaps the most impressive moment of the night happened between games.
During their break, without being prompted, our Lady Grizzlies gathered in the stands, pulled out their iPads, and got to work on their homework. At 10:15 p.m., these student-athletes walked off the court with championship trophies in hand—and their schoolwork completed.
All season long, we have emphasized our school motto at practice:
“Championship teams do the ordinary things extraordinarily well.”
These girls are living proof of that. They understand that being a champion isn’t just about what happens on the court. It’s about showing up, doing the work, holding yourself accountable, and taking care of business in every area of your life.
They are setting an incredible example of what it means to be a GCF Grizzly. Excellence doesn’t happen by accident. Congratulations on an extraordinary season, Lady Grizzlies! We are so proud of you!
