From an abandoned building to a place of his own. ๐
Several months ago, one of our guests never imagined he would be experiencing homelessness.
He had been living with family when circumstances changed and they had to move. Unable to go with them, he suddenly found himself with nowhere to go. For 12 days, he sought refuge in an abandoned building.
Then he was arrested.
Looking back, he describes something unexpected: jail was an answer to prayer.
When it was time for his release, he had one very practical question: Where do I go now?
Other inmates gave him an answer: RCS.
He came to our Emergency Shelter, and he's been with us ever since.
Over the months that followed, our team walked alongside him as he rebuilt what had been lost along the way. Staff helped him obtain a new ID and important documents, restore his disability benefits, apply for housing, and connect with peer support.
And then came the news we'd all been hoping for.
Housing opened up. This week, after nearly five months at RCS, he is moving into a place of his own.
This is what shelter can be: not simply a place to sleep tonight, but a place to begin figuring out what comes next.
And we'd love for our community to be part of the next chapter of his story.
As he prepares to move, his needs are pretty simple: a bed and a couch. If you have either in good, usable condition that you'd like to donate, please reach out to RCS.
Because after months of wondering โWhere do I go?โ this week, he has an answer: Home.
