Food Truck Friday is finally back!

The Corn Cobbler will be making a return on Friday, September 25th from 11 AM to 7 PM (or until they sell out).

Come grab a quick lunch at the library and treat yourself to roasted corn on the cob, loaded baked-potatoes, and a dirty soda!

October is creeping upon us, and you guessed it! It's time for our second Cutest Cat Contest!

The rules for the contest are exactly the same as the Cutest Dog Contest previously held in August. First, you submit a picture of your cat under this post with the cat's name and owner name (if you have more than one cat, they will be put together as one entry).

Once all submissions have been received, all cats will have their own red bag at the library for people to put in their donations. The cat with the most donations wins!

There will be four voting rounds with eliminations at the end of each round until we crown our next champion. Make sure you vote often to keep your favorite cat in the running!

Our Lil Bookworms had a hoot of a time this week!

We read the book "Owl By Myself" and then got creative making our very own owl puppets.

Lil Bookworms is a wonderful opportunity for our youngest patrons to enjoy stories, crafts, snacks, socialization and fun, while building a love of reading from an early age.

Join us every Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the library's community room. Lil Bookworms is open to children birth through age 5 and their caregivers. We'd love to see you there!

A huge thank you to all of the talented teens who joined us for our first teen painting class on Thursday evening. We had so much fun watching everyone get creative as they painted their own beautiful tree landscape and customized it with a saying that was uniquely their own.

A special thank you to local artist Scarlett Greenawalt who did a fabulous job facilitating the program and helping our teens bring their artistic visions to life.

We loved seeing so much creativity and fun in the library! We're already looking forward to more opportunities like this. Keep an eye on our page for more upcoming events!

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS IN OIL CREEK LIBRARY DISTRICT!

Our libraries are hosting a Battle of the Books! The theme for this year is “Page to Screen.”

To participate, submit a bracket and vote either online or at your library. As a bonus, participants will have the chance to win one of our movie-night themed baskets!

Use whatever criteria you want to cast your vote – even if you vote for a book you’ve never read. Some books also have multiple adaptations – vote on whichever adaptation you want, because the book is the real star.

The round of 32 has been set! Download a fillable bracket, or stop in the library to pick one up. Completed brackets can be emailed to [email protected] or returned to your local library September 4-27. Voting begins on September 28.

For more information, or to download a bracket, visit https://oilcreek.org/book-battle/

The winners of our recent Cutest Dog Contest recently stopped in the library to claim their prizes!

Pictured with their doggie goodie baskets are first place winner Ziggy (and Zara, not pictured) and Zeppelin, with owner Bobbie Wadsworth.

Not pictured are second place winners Jax and Storm.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who voted and generously donated to help your favorite pup advance. Every vote made a difference, and your generosity will help us continue providing programs, resources and services to our community.

And of course, a huge round of applause to every single dog who participated. With more than 100 contestants, making it through each round was quite an accomplishment.

Thank you for making this contest such a tremendous success and for proving once again what an amazing community we have. We had so much fun cheering on these cute pups, and we’re already looking forward to seeing who will take the crown and become our next champion next year!

For our monthly craft, we are having a Customize-Your-Own-Canvas-Tote-Bag craft class on Monday, September 28th from 5 PM to 7 PM!

Canvas totes have resurged in popularity in the past year, and they're the perfect bag to carry books in.

This class will be a drop-in class, which means there is no sign-up required. All ages are welcome to attend, as we have a plethora of iron-on designs & patches for children, teens, & adults.

Literary editor & author, Emilie Buchwald, said it best: children become readers from books being read to them by their parents.

The ability to read is the most important skill a person can have, and the perfect place for finding reading materials for kids is the library!

Children as old as seven years old are able to own their own library card. One parent must apply for a library card to accompany their child as their responsible party.

It was so nice having our Lil Bookworms back in the library for storytime last week!

Don’t forget, our Lil Bookworms program, open to children from birth through age 5, meets every Thursday in the library’s community room at 10:30 a.m. During that time, our youngest readers have the opportunity to enjoy a story, craft activity, snack, and the chance to play and socialize with other kids.

Make a plan to join us each week for a morning of early literacy and fun!
