𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗺𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲!
Perry County Hometowns is excited to celebrate the completion of the Blain mural on the exterior wall of Blain Market. Painted by artist 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗔𝘄𝗮𝘆, the mural brings together scenes of Blain’s history, Main Street character, and community pride, including the Newport and Shermans Valley Railroad’s Blain Depot, a former view of Blain Market, and a historic streetscape framed by flowers and the surrounding landscape.
More than a public art project, this mural became a community experience while Janeen was painting. Residents, families, business owners, and visitors stopped by throughout the week to share stories, ask questions, take photos, and offer encouragement. Janeen described her time in Blain as “a little bit of heaven on earth,” and shared how deeply she appreciated the kindness, conversations, and hospitality she experienced from the community.
Perry County Hometowns extends sincere thanks to Janeen Hershey for sharing her talent and care with this project; to 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 and the building owners for hosting the mural; to 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵, 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁, and local partners for their support; and to the many community members who helped welcome and encourage the artist throughout the process.
The mural was funded through a 𝗞𝗲𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗻𝘀𝘆𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 and is part of Perry County Economic Development Authority's continued work to strengthen local identity, encourage community pride, and create meaningful points of interest across Perry County’s boroughs.
A formal dedication will be planned in the near future. More details will be shared once they are available.
