Making a difference in your community doesn't require a massive gesture or an overhaul of your schedule. Real, lasting change almost always starts small, with showing up for the person right next to you. 🩵

Today is National Make a Difference Day. In a world that can feel overwhelming, focusing on local action brings hope back into reach. Whether it’s dropping off a case of bottled water, volunteering an hour of your time, or simply treating an unhoused neighbor with dignity and respect, your presence matters.

New Braunfels is stronger when we look out for one another.

Words shape how we treat people. Even with good intentions, common phrases about homelessness often dismiss the realities our neighbors face every day.

When we say things like ""Why don't they just move somewhere cheaper?"" or ""They must want to live like that,"" we overlook massive financial barriers, trauma, and the total lack of affordable housing in our region.

Reframing how we speak is one of the simplest ways we can build a more compassionate, informed community in New Braunfels. 💜

When someone loses their home, we immediately think about the loss of shelter. 🏚️

But homelessness is never just a housing crisis, its often also a loss of identity and security.

Losing a home means losing your safe space to exhale at the end of the day. It means losing daily routines, family keepsakes, privacy, and your sense of control over tomorrow. The emotional weight of displacement stays with a person long after the door closes.

When we show up with empathy instead of judgment, we help restore the dignity everyone deserves.
Save this post as a reminder that real support means seeing the whole person, not just the crisis. 💚

A hot, reliable meal starts with a stocked pantry. 🍽️

Every day, First Footing provides simple, accessible food for local residents navigating housing insecurity, and we rely on our community to keep our kitchen ready.

We are currently running low on quick, easy-to-prepare items for our shelter guests. Whether you're picking up an extra box of granola bars during your grocery run or organizing a food drive with your workplace, your donations directly support neighbors in need.

In New Braunfels, homelessness rarely matches the images we see on the news. It doesn’t always look like crowded downtown sidewalks, it’s built to stay hidden.

It looks like working seniors sleeping in their cars in parking lots, young families squeezed into overcrowded spare rooms, and neighbors living in tents tucked along the Guadalupe and Comal rivers.

When housing crisis is invisible, it’s easy to assume it isn’t happening here. But our neighbors are struggling right in our own backyard. Bringing this crisis into the light is the first step toward building real solutions. 💚

For many, home is a place of safety and rest. But for survivors of domestic violence, home can be the most dangerous place of all.

Domestic violence is one of the leading causes of homelessness for women. Choosing to leave an unsafe environment often means leaving behind financial security, shelter, and everything familiar, all in a single moment.

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we stand with survivors as they navigate the incredibly difficult journey toward safety, healing, and independence. Rebuilding a life takes immense courage, and access to safe, stable housing is the foundation where that healing begins. ❤️‍🩹

If you or someone you know is navigating an unsafe situation, you are not alone. Resources and confidential support are available. National Domestic Violence Hotline: Call 1-800-799-SAFE or text ""START"" to 88788

Our community is sustained by steady, quiet consistency. 🩵

A huge thank you to Carl Martin and his friends and family for showing up for First Footing time after time. Whether they’re serving meals or simply sitting down to share a conversation with our participants, their regular presence brings a sense of reliability and warmth that our neighbors can count on.

Choosing to make community care a routine habit is what creates real stability. We are so grateful for your ongoing dedication to New Braunfels!

Did you know today is World Homeless Day and World Mental Health Day?

It’s no coincidence they fall on the very same date.

When you are forced to sleep in a parking lot, on cold concrete, or in an unsafe space, your mind is trapped in constant survival mode. Anxiety, trauma, and exhaustion take over. True mental healing cannot begin until basic safety is restored, because housing IS mental healthcare.

At First Footing, we don't just offer a temporary roof. We provide a safe, dignified space where local neighbors in New Braunfels can rest, breathe, and begin rebuilding their lives from the inside out. 💚

National homelessness dropped by 3.3%, a hopeful sign, but over 745,000 people nationwide remain unhoused.

Here in our own backyard, the need remains urgent. In 2025 alone, 509 local neighbors turned to us for shelter help.

Thanks to community support, our shelter expanded to host up to 66 people at a time. But with our local waitlist climbing as high as 95 people this year, national statistics don't shelter local families, community action does.

National progress only happens when local towns step up to care for their own. 💚

Want to help us expand our shelter capacity and shorten our local waitlist? Visit https://nbhousingpartners.org/join-us/ to get involved.
