I was proud to sponsor a town hall last night focused on the School Property Tax Elimination Act, which includes Senate Bill 962 sponsored by Senator Dawn Keefer and House Bill 1649 sponsored by Representative Wendy Fink. These two have been leading the push to eliminate school property taxes and replace them with changes to the state sales and income tax structure.

The goal is to take the burden off homeowners while keeping schools fully funded through a different mix of state and local taxes. It was informative to hear how this could impact families, renters, school districts, and our communities overall. There's a lot to think about with a proposal this big, but I'm glad I was there to see and hear the reaction of the local community members.

I would like to extend my most sincere thank you to the New Castle School of Trades for providing us a space to host this event!!

Today my office and I wore purple in honor of domestic violence awareness month. Arise has encouraged those within the community to wear purple today in order to raise awareness about domestic violence and all those impacted.

You are never alone in situations like this and should never feel as such. I encourage anyone in need of support to reach out to organizations like Arise for support and guidance in your time of need!

Hoyt Arts Center is leading an effort to establish a Creative District in downtown New Castle through a new Pennsylvania Creative Industries initiative and your input can help shape it.

The proposed district would stretch from the Hoyt to the New Castle Playhouse, connecting creative businesses, cultural organizations, artists and local traditions along the way!!

I encourage residents, artists and creative business owners to share their ideas through the five-minute survey below.

What places, people, businesses or traditions make our community special? Let’s help highlight what makes New Castle unique!

I was pleased to join the Human Services Center and community members this afternoon to celebrate the dedication of Hope Park, a new outdoor space supporting recreation, community connection and physical and mental well-being.

I’m even more pleased to have helped secure a $200,000 Commonwealth Financing Authority Greenways, Trails and Recreation grant for the project.

It is always rewarding to see state funding come back to our communities and become something people can use and enjoy!!

Designed with the needs of Human Services Center residents in mind, Hope Park also offers a space for the broader New Castle community to enjoy. Features include a walking trail, fitness equipment, a community garden, a therapeutic garden and an amphitheater. The community garden will provide opportunities for vocational staff and Fairweather Lodge residents to take an active role in caring for the park.

Congratulations to the Human Services Center and the entire New Castle community on Hope Park!
