Taking a core sample from one of the floor joists.

These samples will be compared with core samples from trees in Western Pennsylvania and Northeast Ohio to help determine when the trees were harvested—and give us a better idea of when our house was built.

Nick from the Wooster Tree-Ring Lab at The College of Wooster is helping us uncover the history of our home!

He’s taking core samples from the main hand-hewn beams and floor joists to determine the age of our house through Dendroarchaeology—the scientific study of archaeological wood, historic structures, artifacts, and other wooden objects using tree-ring dating.

We can’t wait to see what the trees have to tell us about when our house was built! 🌳🔍🏡
