During the week of October 5th, Good Will Firefighter/EMT's Nicholson and Slatcher as well as members from Holloway Terrace Fire Co., Delaware City Fire Company, Port Penn Volunteer Fire Company, and Wilmington Fire completed the forty hour National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) Boat Operator Search and Rescue (BOSAR) Course. This course, instructed by members of the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay, covers a wide array of topics that all contribute to safe boat handling and better coordinated search and rescue efforts as well as risk identification and mitigation. Boat crews received training and applied their knowledge in pre-launch risk assessments and go/no-go decisions, various search patterns, rescue, recovery, and salvage planning, and safe and effective boat-handling techniques.

This training and coordination with both our local fire companies as well as our regional Coast Guard Station continues to build on good relationships and allows all partners involved in search and rescue operations on the Delaware River to be familiar with search and rescue terminology used by the Coast Guard. FF/EMT's Nicholson and Slatcher join the growing roster of over a dozen Good Will Rescue Boat Operators who have completed this training course.
