New Castle County EMS successes throughout the past 50 years would not be possible without sound partnership with the other Delaware paramedic agencies. All three paramedic agencies (Kent County Department of Public Safety, Sussex County Department of Public Safety, and Delaware State Police Aviation Section) provided paramedics to help cover the county and work on units with NCC paramedics to enable our personnel time to celebrate 50 years at the Anniversary Banquet. Thank you to Kent County Paramedics Michael Porter and Caityln Fanelli, Sussex County Paramedics Lewis Sacks and Savannah Fleckenstein, and DE State Police Trooper Paramedic David Franck for helping provide paramedic service to the county on October 2.

Safety is everyone’s job. 🚑

On the side of an interstate, visibility matters. It doesn’t matter what your rank is, what your title says, or how long you’ve been doing the job. If you’re out there, you wear the gear.

Even the Chief…..showing that safety starts with all of us.

🚑 What We Carry Wednesday 🚑

This week’s featured medication: Glucagon

Glucagon is used to treat severely low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), especially when a patient is unable to safely take glucose by mouth.

It works by telling the liver to release stored glucose into the bloodstream, helping raise blood sugar levels. Severe hypoglycemia can cause confusion, seizures, or unconsciousness, so recognizing and treating it quickly is important.

When blood sugar drops to a dangerous level, glucagon gives our paramedics another way to get it back where it needs to be.

No day is ever the same . . . no call is like another . . . and the locations that paramedics are asked to respond are always changing. Medic 2B was recently dispatched to a local airport to treat a patient on an inbound aircraft for a medical emergency. Everyday brings a new challenge for our paramedics. We thank our partners from Station 33 - Delaware Air Guard Fire Department for their assistance on such medical emergencies.
