As we close out teacher appreciation week I would like to take a moment to congratulate all of last nights tenure recipients. As you continue in your career, I urge you to keep your passion and purpose.

It had been brought to my attention that certain individuals in the community have been using very disturbing language and threats calling me vile, a bigot, homophobe and transphobe. Apparently I’ve even made it onto a blog where an individual is saying how much she and her community don’t like me and another calling me insane and to be locked up.
I’ve been quiet on social media because as an elected board member I do not think it is appropriate to engage. But as my character is being defamed by people who do not know me and have never had an actually conversation, I do have some question, truly based in irony… how is it that a group of individuals who claim to stand for acceptance, kindness and love be the most hateful people out there? How is a group of individuals claiming to protect children, publicly threaten children daily? How is a group of individuals claiming to stand for tolerance be the most intolerant?

There is still time! Don’t forget to get out and vote to pass the bond for our kids!

Just a few hours ago, the CCSD school board sent an email to parents about an emergency meeting tomorrow. The email included a letter from a NYS lawyer, Mr Daniel Morton-Bentley, who in typical lawyer form will use fluff to make sure readers can’t see past the smoke screen while absolving himself of possible liability. There are two key terms included in this letter: “opinion” and “irrespective”. Opinion means just that, the entire letter is his thoughts. The term irrespective means regardless of. Look at it in Mr Morton-Bentley’s own words: “I commend the Clarkstown Board of Education in adapting a policy … irrespective of local policy.” With this letter, he is giving his opinion and identifying that the board is acting beyond the scope of law. His language protects him, but what about the school district? If something is ever to happened due to the adaptation of policy 0100, the school board is liable and we, the taxpayers are paying the bill. I don’t know about you, but I am tired of my tax dollars paying for district legal fees. Whether it’s the mall or families suing for lack of special needs services, we are paying for it. How many more frivolous law suits will our tax dollars fund? The current school board is gambling our money instead of investing it in our children’s education. Enough is enough, it is time we, the taxpayers payers, hold them accountable.

Stars and Stripes on the Agenda!

The next CCSD School Board meeting is loaded with specific and important topics. The last meeting in February was illegally shut down while South student, John Novotny, was on the public microphone offering harsh criticism to the School Board regarding their reckless open bathroom/ locker room policy. Last week, we had a news story regarding a sexual assault occurring under a stairwell in North High School. A 19 year-old male was involved with a 14 year-old female. An ‘Order of Protection’ has been served to the perpetrator as trial preparation begins. CCSD parents were never officially made aware of this event until the News12 report was broadcast.

On an uplifting note, the ‘Stars and Stripes’ club at North High School is up for vote for official club sanctioning. Everyone has witnessed the power of these young people’s voices in their attempt to return order, empathy, compassion and safety for ALL students in this district. THESE YOUNG ADVOCATES are the precise reasons why the CCSD shortcomings have become a part of the national news story cycle via TicToc, YouTube, Instagram and X!

If for no other reason aside from gratitude and support, please come out to South High School this Tuesday night, April 16th at 7:30PM! Meet, salute and applaud your future leaders that are standing up for ALL CHILDREN in this district! And it all started with a Native American/Italian South Junior named River Traitz! (Sorry, I had to 😎😜). He got the ball rolling with ‘Stars and Stripes’ club sanctioning at South. The momentum and movement will now extend its reach to North! Rock on, budding leaders!
