Remembering the 45th Anniversary of the Brink’s Robbery
On October 20, 1981, Rockland County experienced one of the darkest days in its history. An armed robbery of a Brink’s armored truck at the Nanuet Mall claimed the life of security guard Peter Paige. During the ensuing escape, Nyack Police Sergeant Edward O’Grady and Police Officer Waverly “Chipper” Brown were ambushed and killed at a police roadblock in Nyack.
The Brink’s robbery forever changed policing in Rockland County, leaving a lasting impact on law enforcement, officer safety, and how agencies work together to protect our communities. Its consequences are still remembered by the men and women who serve today.
Forty-five years later, we honored the memories of Peter Paige, Sergeant Edward O’Grady, and Officer Waverly Brown. We remember their lives, their sacrifice, and the families and loved ones who continue to carry their legacy.
Their names will never be forgotten, and their sacrifice will forever remain part of Rockland County’s history.
We will never forget. 🇺🇸
