We will be at the Bakerville Library to celebrate Halloween on 10/31 from 5-6:30. Stop by, say hello and get some treats!

With Halloween fast approaching, Dewey (of the Decimal System) Bones has set up a storytime outside the library to read to the little skeletons.

Join us on Halloween (Saturday, October 31st) from 5:00 - 6:30 for our annual BooFest, which includes a Trunk or Treat!

A great time seeing the kids at Cadence Academy in Pine Meadow. Never too young to talk about fire safety!

Today our members spent the day with students of Ann Antolini discussing fire safety and prevention. Students got to go through Torrington Fire Department’s smoke house and check out our trucks with Smokey Bear. Thank you to the Torrington Fire Department for allowing us to use the trailer.

Last night members had the opportunity to do a vehicle extrication drill with Lieutenant Matt Kolakoski from Tunxis Hose, as we continue to build our relationships with other town agencies. Members worked on stabilizing the vehicle, removing the doors and roof, as well as rolling the dash board. This technique is used to free a patient’s feet and/or legs if they become trapped in a car accident - in last night’s scenario, we had two trapped occupants. Thank you to our dedicated members for taking the time to train on a night outside of our regular Monday drills and thank you to Matt for organizing scenarios for us to engage in.

Today we visited Bakerville Elementary to discuss fire safety and prevention with Chief Diorio, Lt Burdsall, Lt Morante and of course, Smokey Bear. Nurse Acacia was even disguised as a firefighter! Firefighters are people we see everyday in our community. We enjoy the opportunity to share some basic safety skills with the children of New Hartford. We will be at Ann Antolini this coming Thursday. Keep an eye out for some fire safety goodies that will be sent home.

At last night’s monthly meeting, we welcomed Drew O’Brien as a probationary member of our department. This is our 5th new member this year. Welcome Drew!🎉

⁉️Did you know that 69% of U.S. fire departments are entirely run by volunteers? ⁉️

New Hartford has an incredible community of volunteers and we’re always looking to add to our roster here in the south end. Remember, you do not have to run into a burning building to be a firefighter! If you are interested in hearing more, please send us a message. 🔥

We are excited to share that two of our cadets have successfully completed the Missioncit EMT program and have passed their certification exams. Congratulations to Katelyn Cahill and Brody Kesl! These members not only dedicate their time to serving our department, they also serve New Hartford Volunteer Ambulance - all this while juggling school and other extra curricular activities! Thank you to NHVA for supporting our members through this program.

Last night Tanker 2 traveled to East Hartland to participate in a multi-agency tanker shuttle drill. This opportunity showcases rural water supply efforts and how tankers cycle back and forth between a water source and a fire scene in the absence of hydrants. Thank you to The East Hartland Volunteer Fire Department for hosting us.
