🚒📚 Story Time with a Firefighter!

A big thank you to Eastern Lancaster County Library for inviting us to join their story time today as part of Fire Prevention Month!

Our youngest community members got an up-close look at a fire truck and learned what firefighters look and sound like when they're wearing their full protective gear.

❤️ It's an important lesson! Firefighters can look and sound a little scary in all their gear, but we want children to know there's a friendly face underneath and we're there to help!

Thank you, ELANCO Library, for helping us teach fire safety to our littlest neighbors!

If you’ve got a little one come on out and join us for Story Time at the ELANCO Library today at 10:30!

🚒 Fire Prevention Month continues at Garden Spot Fire Rescue!

We welcomed 70 visitors to Station 1 for some hands-on fire safety learning!

From kitchen safety tips to getting an up-close look at our firefighters' gear and apparatus, even spraying the firehose! It was a great opportunity to learn more about staying safe at home and see what we do at the firehouse.

🔥 Kitchen Safety Tip: If a small grease fire starts in a pan, carefully slide a metal lid over it, turn off the burner, and leave the lid in place until everything has cooled. Baking soda can also help smother a very small grease fire, but never put yourself at risk trying to extinguish one. Never use water or flour on a grease fire! If the fire spreads, get out and call 911.

Thank you to everyone who joined us! We love opening our doors and sharing what we do to help keep our community safe.

⚡ BE A CHARGING SUPERHERO! 🦸📱

This year’s Fire Prevention theme is “Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” From phones and tablets to laptops, power tools and e-bikes, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries are part of our everyday lives and safe charging habits matter.

⚡ Use your charging superpowers:

🔌 Use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.

🛏️ Soft surface? Hard pass!Charge on a hard, flat surface. Not a bed, couch, pillow or under blankets.

🔋 Fully charged? Time to unplug. Leaving a device plugged in can increase heat and stress on the battery.

🔥 Stop using a battery or device if you notice unusual heat, swelling, leaking, a strange odor, a change in color or unusual noises.

🛴 For larger items like e-bikes, scooters and power tools, charge outside when possible and never block an exit while charging.

These are some of the same lessons we’re sharing with students during our Fire Prevention Month visits because good fire safety habits start at home.

🏠 Our House is Your House. Let’s keep all of our houses safe.

Why it matters: In 2024, U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated 26,400 residential electrical-malfunction fires, resulting in 255 deaths, 800 injuries and more than $1.5 billion in property loss.

🔥 Fire Prevention Month is underway! 🚒

We were thrilled to kick things off today at New Holland Elementary, where students got to learn about fire safety in ways they could see, hear, and experience.

🐻 Grades K–2 had a special visit from Smokey the Bear! Students learned what a firefighter looks and sounds like in full gear, an important lesson so children know not to be afraid or hide from firefighters during an emergency. They also got an up-close look at one of our fire trucks.

🔥 Grades 3–5 took fire safety a step further, talking about hazards at home, including safe charging of phones, tablets, and other devices. They also made their way through a simulated smoke-filled house. The “smoke” was only fog, but it gave students a chance to experience just how difficult it can be to see and find your way out when visibility disappears.

Experiences like these are why fire prevention education matters. The more our kids know before an emergency happens, the better prepared they are if one ever does.

A big thank you to New Holland Elementary for welcoming us, and to Captain 39-2 Wes Kopp, Chief 39-2 Brendon Harnish, Firefighter Ray Harnish and Firefighter Trevor Kuenzli for spending the day helping our youngest community members learn how to stay safe.

Throughout October, we’ll be sharing more from our Fire Prevention Month activities and simple ways you can practice fire safety at home.

🏠 Our House is Your House! Keeping our community safe starts long before the call comes in.

Remembering Nelson Lee Mohler ❤️🚒

We are saddened to share the passing of Nelson Lee Mohler, a Life Member of Liberty Fire Company, now part of Garden Spot Fire Rescue.

Nelson believed in service. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army as a member of the 101st Airborne Division, and he served his New Holland community through Liberty Fire Company, where he was a Lieutenant with the Fire Police. He was also active with the New Holland VFW and American Legion.

Those who knew Nelson knew that family was at the heart of his life. He was a proud husband to Erma, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

We are grateful that Nelson chose to give part of his life in service to Liberty Fire Company and the New Holland community. His service is part of the history on which Garden Spot Fire Rescue stands today.

Our thoughts are with Erma, the entire Mohler family, and all those who knew and served alongside Nelson.

Thank you for your service, Nelson. You will be missed. ❤️

🎺 What a Night in New Holland! 🚒

Thank you to everyone who came out for the Spectacle of Bands Parade! We hope you enjoyed seeing our community come together for one of New Holland’s favorite traditions.

There was plenty happening at the firehouse, too! Our Auxiliary was busy serving food in the hall, and we were glad to provide chairs along the parade route so folks could grab a seat and enjoy the show.

Behind the scenes, Garden Spot Fire Rescue remained on duty throughout the evening. Our station served as a command center for public safety, with firefighters and emergency personnel working together to help keep the parade and surrounding community safe, all while remaining ready to respond to calls if needed.

It takes a lot of people working together to make a night like this happen. Thank you to our members, Auxiliary, fellow emergency responders, fair committee, parade participants, and everyone who came out to enjoy the evening!

And the fun isn’t over yet! 🎡 The New Holland Fair is underway, so get out, enjoy the fair, and support our community!

Our house is your house!

What a joy this morning, we had the privilege of hosting our Legacy Breakfast for former and current members of Blue Ball Fire Company, Liberty, and Garden Spot Fire Rescue! It was truly a time to reconnect, share stories, and honor the members whose years of service helped shape the fire company we are today.

Our history is built on people who answered the call, served their neighbors, and laid the foundation for the generations that followed.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to gather around the table, celebrate that legacy, and say thank you.

One Team. Three Stations. One Mission.
